Song for the chapter: Misery Business by Paramore
________

I winced, while the paramedic patched up my burnt ankles. Coraline and I were in separate rooms, and getting questioned while getting cleaned up. I guess we were part of the investigation.

"Why didn't you call the fire department when the house was burning?" Officer Peltz questioned.

I glared, "I was sleeping, and my first thought was to get my sister from the burning house." I wonder if she was getting questioned with the same questions.

"Why did you come here without calling the police?" He asked.

I shrugged, "I didn't feel like burning alive, Peltz."

"Did you see your mother when the fire started?"

"Are you accusing me of murder, and arson?" I shouted. The paramedic finished, and quickly left. I stood, "You really think I'd kill my own mother?"

"Sit down, please," He said, motioning to the table I was previously sitting on. "Elizabeth, It's protocol. Honestly, I don't think you're capable."

I sat down, and rolled my eyes. Silence filled the room, and my ankles felt numb. I sighed, waiting for more questions to get fired.

"Are we done here?" I asked quietly. All I wanted to do was see my sister. See if she was okay, or if she was seriously hurt.

He nodded, and left the room. Now that I was alone, I felt like I was actually alone. Like I had nobody left. I couldn't imagine what'd it'd be like without my sister. Now that we've got no mother, I have no father, and all we've actually got is each other. I mean, we could have Coraline's father, but he's nowhere to be found. MIA.

A light knock at the door yanked my thoughts away. My eyes darted to the opening door, and in came a tall muscled man. His hair was lightly fluffed in the front, and he had bright eyes that seemed to have seen a lot of misery. I quickly looked away, realizing I was checking this dude out. He was hot in his suit and tie.

I suppose he noticed that I was checking him out because he had a smirk plastered to his face. He sat down in front of me. I looked down at the table.

"Hello, Ms... Bailey," His voice was deeper as he looked through a file, "House went up in flames, your sister and yourself are the only survivors."

He seemed so... Nonchalant. It bothered me a little. But, I nodded, nonetheless.

"I see you're not talkative. Uh... Can you tell me what happened?" He asked.

I cocked my head, " Are you FBI?"

He nodded, "Agent Sparks. My partner is in with Coraline."

I nodded, " Okay... Well, I was sleeping on my couch while my mom was watching TV. I think that's what she was doing. But, anyway, I suddenly smelt the smoke. I got up, and saw her burning on the ceiling... But I saw somebody standing by the back door. So, my first instinct was to get my sister out, and salvage what I needed, as well for my sister. I didn't call the police. I did what was instinct."

Sparks seemed to have nodded, "How old are you, Ms. Bailey?"

His green eyes seemed sympathetic. I looked him in the face, "Elizabeth."

He cocked his head a little, "What?"

"Call me Elizabeth." He nodded, and I continued, "I'm 18. I graduate in a few weeks. Well, I'm supposed to."

Sparks nodded, "How old is your sister, Elizabeth?"

I hesitated, "14. She just turned 14."

A tear sprung to my eyes. Realization really hit. Mom was dead, and Coraline was young.

"I know how it feels to lose a parent. I lost my mom when I was young. My brother was a baby." His hand reached for my resting one on the metal table. Warmth spread up my hand, and I kept where I was, "Dean."

"What?"

"Call me Dean." He had a small smile on his face, and his features were light.

"Well, Dean. Do you need anything else? I'm pretty sure in the next few minutes I'll be sobbing." I hesitated, "and I'll be about as responsive as a baseball bat."

He chuckled a little, and as if on cue, the door opened. In came a taller man with dark long hair, and soft features. I looked away, while pulling my hand from Dean's. Another set of feet followed after the guys. I looked to see a teary eyed Coraline.

I stood up, and walked over to my hurting sister.

"Coraline. It's okay... We'll be okay," I whispered into her hair. She stood a few inches shorter than myself, but still stood tall. I felt wet marks in my shirt where her tears were staining, "It's okay. We'll be okay." I kept whispering the words, hoping she'll be calm.

"You two are going to have to stay here for awhile. We'll have to get in contact with another relative, and have them take care of you." The taller of the two agents said.

Dean stood next to his partner, and frowned.

"We don't have anybody else." I said, still clinging to Coraline, "I can take care of the two of us. I have a job... But no place to stay. If I can, I'll get an apartment. We'll be fine."

"But you're-"

"18. Therefore, I'm an adult." I sassed.

He nodded, "Well, I suppose you can leave. Call us if you need anything." He handed me a card. I read the names.

SAM & DEAN was printed on the card along with two numbers.

"Okay. Thank you." I nodded at the two, and kept Coraline on my side. We walked slowly to the outside, and to my parked car. Another thought came to mind.

Why would the FBI be interested in a fire?
