POV: Cameron

That's when I woke up, gasping.

I was no longer in the apartment, with the child, but I was still aware of his father's name present on my lips.

I was currently slouching in a hard, plastic chair that sat outside of the operation room where Sydney had taken her final breath.

I looked to the side of me and was startled to see the nurse who had awoken me from my nightmare.

It was the same nurse that had given me the bad news in my dream... or at least I think that was a dream.

"Mr. Dallas, I'm sorry to interrupt, but I have some information concerning your wife." She stated quietly, sympathy clouding her gaze.

"She's not my wife..." I muttered quietly, but it was too low for even her to hear.

Here it comes.

The horrible truth.

I had foreseen the future and here it was coming true and there was nothing I could do about it.

I didn't want to hear it though.

As long as I didn't hear it, it wasn't true. Not yet at least.

"How long was I asleep?" I asked, stalling the nurse.

The nurse looked startled. "Excuse me? Um- well we've been operating on your wife for around an hour now, but it took us around 3 to finally get her stable..." She stated quietly as she regarded me closely.

"Ah I see I- wait. Did you say stable?" I asked my heart about thumped out of my chest. "As in, she's alive??" I asked jumping to my feet and grasping the tiny nurse by the arms desperately. "Tell me! Tell me, is she alive?" I pleaded.

"Y-yes she survived. That's what I was trying to tell you!" She protested as she struggled out of my grasp, but it was futile until I released her.

"Sir, are you alright?" She asked, shaken, as she backed a good distance away from me.

I was still standing there, dumbfounded, but I finally seemed to come to my senses.

I nodded slowly, a smile starting to stretch across my face and I felt tears threaten to spill over, but I held them back as I turned to the suspicious nurse.

"Can I see her?" I asked, almost pleading as I stepped towards the girl.

She mirrored my movements and stepped away from me.

"Stay where you are, sir. I don't want to have to call security." She warned, putting a hand out in front of her. "To answer your question, no. She is still not stable enough to have visitors." She sighed, but at my look of utter dismay she added. "You may see your child though."

Why was I not aloud to see the woman I love, whom I had just seen die before my very eyes?!

I needed confirmation that it was truly just a dream.

I needed to see her, alive and breathing.

I swallowed my frustration with difficulty, but nodded reluctantly.

The nurse sighed in relief and beckoned me to follow her down the hall.

We finally came upon a huge glass window that peered into a large room with dozens of baby bassinets and cradles with babies of all races inside of them.

Some of them were squirming, some sleeping, some crying, but only one looked straight at the glass.

The child was wrapped in a blue blanket, to indicate that he was a boy.
