The scrapping sound of metal rang in his ears as he found his consciousness pull themselves together. He opened his eyes, wincing slightly at the pain he could feel coursing through his exhausted body. He breathed in and out as heavily as he could to feel the air pumping into his lungs. He felt heavy but he knew it was just probably because of the chains connected to the cuffs on his hands. He moved them slightly, noticing the rather short distance it had. He glanced around the room he was in. Bleak and sullen looking. He tried to sit up but he could still feel the tiredness that was trying to drag him back to sleep.
He fought against the drowsiness and managed to sit up from the bed he was in. He blinked and rubbed his eyes with his hand while taking a closer look at the cuffs as well. It would probably hurt if he tried to forcefully pull them apart. He looked around the room before noticing someone who was staring at him through the small barred window on the door. It took him awhile to recognize the other's face since he had only seen it once and it was in his defeat too.
He thought of saying something to the other but he wasn't sure what to say. Maybe to clarify that he wasn't actually a knight? That he was just subbing in since their head knight had already been defeated? But he didn't want his kingdom to be viewed as weak so he stayed silent. The other moved though and opened the door.
"You're awake," the taller male spoke in the same calm voice he was slowly recalling. Baekho watched as the male entered the room. Tall with a calm somewhat pleasing yet cold look. Long lashes, he noticed, and slightly pouty lips. The deep black hair and eyes. Baekho wasn't sure what to say so he nodded in response. "Feeling comfortable?"
"Oddly enough, yes," Baekho replied honestly. "I didn't think you would give me a bed to sleep on since I'm a... prisoner." He lifted his hands up to make a point but the other looked unamused by it.
"You're not a prisoner," he blatantly replied as he stepped closer, placing a hand under Baekho's chin. Baekho would have moved away but he didn't quite want to anger the other for some reason he was unsure of himself. Maybe it was the sharp gaze the other held in those eyes of his or the touch that was actually gentle and didn't seem alarming to him in any sense.
"If I'm not... then what do you want from me?" Baekho asked, a little startled and mostly confused. "A kingdom is worth more than just one guy, isn't it? But you were willing to have me instead of my entire kingdom." The male moved his hand and stepped away from Baekho.
"Yes. But your kingdom isn't what I'm interested in. We already have plenty of control in this country."
"Are you mocking my kingdom?" Baekho hissed, feeling a sudden annoyance despite his earlier obedience.
"No. I just wanted to make it clear to you that what I want isn't your kingdom. But you."
"Me? You don't even know me and I don't even know you. Why would you want me?" Baekho asked, adjusting his sitting position so his wound wouldn't hurt as much. The other shrugged and walked to the door.
"Whatever your status is... was... that doesn't matter here anymore. You're in my kingdom and under my command now."
"I can't promise I'll be good," Baekho said cheekily to which the other gave him an odd smile. One that sent chills down his spine.
"I can't promise that I'll leave your kingdom alone then."
"What-" Baekho stood up but froze as he felt his body shiver from the pain and fatigue. He let himself slowly fall down onto the bed again but glared at the other. "Leave my kingdom alone. You promised that."
"I will if you promise to behave. Try not to escape and most importantly, to be loyal to me. Give yourself to me for the sake of your kingdom's safety."
Baekho gritted his teeth, wanting so badly to say no. To fight back for his own freedom but he also didn't want to put the rest at risk so he relaxed and just nodded. He would find a chance someday and maybe run away. Either ways, the first step would be to win this male's trust first. Whoever he was. Knight or not.
Though Baekho couldn't deny the male was probably too pretty to be a knight.
"Hmmm.... I won't do anything to you until you've healed up. So you have a week alone to think about the new life ahead of you," the other said before leaving the room. Baekho didn't have a chance to say anything else. He sighed and laid down, silently cursing himself for being unable to have had defended himself better during the fight. He couldn't deny that the other was indeed skillful and quick despite their body size difference.
Complaining that the battle was unfair wouldn't help his situation much either. If anything, he felt the other had given him a better offer than he could ever think of. Sacrificing himself was better than having his whole kingdom get taken over after all. He was just one man over hundreds and thousands more lives. He was sure his family would be fine without him too. There were still other knights and guards around too.
And honestly, he wasn't feeling too terrible about his position. He may be cuffed but he had a bed and his wounds were treated properly too. He did wonder what the other wanted to do with him though. Maybe turn him into one of their knights? He wasn't sure if he was up for such a task but those were for the future him to deal with.
His mind slowly lulled him to sleep as his eyes closed and once again, he was brought into the embrace of the pitch black darkness where he spent the rest of the day in.
