Rick Grimes

I woke up in Frank and Cindy Drake's guest bedroom, an African American man was standing to my right. He took off the pair of rubber gloves off he had on and turned to look at me.

He had changed my bandages.

" I changed that bandage of yours," He said as he dried his hands with a towel. " What was the wound?"

" Gunshot. I was a Sheriff's Deputy, as you could probably tell by my outfit, and got shot. I woke up today, and what I found was.... beyond horrible. What the hell is going on out there?"

" The dead have started to walk." The black man said as he got out a switchblade and cut me loose. I was restrained to the headboard of the bed was laying on.

" I feel really bad for knocking you out like that." A boy's voice said.

I turned my head to see an African American boy standing in the doorway. He was around the same Carl was. Eleven.

" It's alright. You didn't know if I was human or not."

" Do you feel like you have a fever?" The man asked me.

" No."

" I'm Morgan, and this is my son Duane."

" Thank you for not leaving me on the street. I'll be out of your hair as soon as possible."

" You can stay as long as you want," Morgan said. " It's the least I could do. I don't want you to die out there."

" You have any idea of what made the dead walk?" I asked him as all three of us walked into the kitchen.

" No clue. All the media shut down after a few weeks-"

" It's been three weeks?!" I asked shocked.

" Keep your voice down," Morgan snapped, in a low tone. " They are drawn to sound."

" I can't believe it's been three weeks. I should have worse bed sours than this."

" As I was saying, I haven't heard anything else. I have no idea if we're the only city like this or not. But I know that were on our own. One more thing, these things are only killed if you do damage to the head at all."

" Did they announce if there were safe camps or something before everything went dead?"

" In Atlanta, but I didn't hear where."

" That's the biggest shot I have to find my wife and kid. Your welcome to tag along. I cleaned out the gun locker at the police station, so we should be protected."

" I'm a little rusty."

" Even more reason to stick with me.

" We do need more supplies, Dad." Duane pointed out.

" Alright, we will leave in the morning. How do beans sound?"

" I'm not very picky. I'll eat anything."

" Good to hear."

We chatted away as the sunset, and the night began. I jumped as a car alarm sounded, and Morgan, Duane and I crept to the window to see which one was it was.

" It's the same one it always is." Morgan said.

" Look at all of them. How could this happen? I don't get it."

" And we probably never will. We'll get moving as soon as the streets clear up. There way too dangerous in groups like that. You can never figure out if they were newly turned or not."
