A Way Out

( Rick's P.O.V.)

We were hounded for days, and when we found a place to lay low, it was miles away from the prison. And the weather did not care.

" Can you open this?" I asked Carl, handing over the can of peaches.

" Sure." He said, taking it out of my hands.

" We're going back for her."

" I know. I'm just worried about her."

" You don't need to be. She can take care of herself."

" I know, but still... I miss her."

" I do too. But we have to shake these guys, then we can get to her."

" How are we going to get away? They're everywhere, Dad."

I exhaled. " We might have to kill some of them."

" Only if we absolutely to." Carl said.

" I wish you didn't have to do these things, but-"

" Dad, I don't either, It's either that or die. And I'm not dying."

" Alright. Let's finish up diverting those dogs of there's and get moving. We should be able to find a Walker soon and cover ourselves so they don't smell us, only way I could thin of avoiding these guys."

" OK Dad." He said, reloading the snub-nose revolver that I gave him.

Carl took down a few Walkers after quietly lowering them in, and I taught him how to gut it, then helped cover him, then he helped cover me.

We passed the familiar herd and made our way out of the woods, protecting our layer of guts and blood from the waterfall of rain as it washed our footprints away.

As the sunset the next day, we found another place to lay low. Joe, and Joe JR's BBQ shack. There were a few walkers in there, and Carl took care of them as I started fixing up a vehicle that was in the parking lot.

" There's still a lot of food in here." He said to him through a window.

" No gas." I said, then glanced over the area.

" I think we should get more distance before we get a vehicle."

" Should be fine, but just in case."

( Carl's P.O.V.)

I went to start fixing up the building, but a few minutes later, I heard my Dad scream out in pain.

I darted back to the window and shot the guy that was beating the shit out of Dad with a brick.

" Dad?!" I asked as I pulled the guy's body off of him, and I checked Dad's pulse. It was still there, but he wasn't responding. " Dad.. please. Don't leave me. I can't, I can't take it. Please."

I continued as I dragged his body into the restoral and got him cleaned up as much as possible and laid him down, still desperately trying to get him to wake up.

I finally stopped crying and drank some water to help my sour throat, but when Dad started moaning and crawling towards me, I broke down.

I looked away and was curling my finger to pull the trigger when Dad said " Carl."

I basically tackled him and cried my eyes out again as he cradled me in his arms.

We stayed there until Dad was able to walk, and then we hit the road, seeing a note from Andrea, telling us to go to this place called Terminus.
