Insanity:

Agreeing to go on a date walking around in the cold when I was sick.

><

Are you free at all tonight?

The text came from Michael early Saturday morning, and I felt myself smile at the name popping up on my screen. The thing was, I was pretty sure I was going to have to decline the date—I had come down with a cold early Friday morning and was still trying to get over it.

Then again, I really wanted to see Michael again. I could always hop myself up on ibuprofen and hope for the best. (1)

            I should be!

I saw the three dots pop up to signal that he was typing and felt my heart start to pick up—I was nervous about what he would suggest.

How would you feel about a cliché Salt Lake City Christmas lights date?

In all honesty, that sounded like an amazing date. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had their temple in Salt Lake City, and the lights were always incredible around Christmastime. I had never seen them in person; my lack of a car had made me figure I would just have to skip out on seeing them during my first winter in Utah.

That would be so much fun!

I think it'd be a good time too 😊 so we'll plan on that then!

            Sounds great!

I forced myself to get out of bed at that point, hoping that I would be able to nurse myself back to health by that night.

We continued to text and Snapchat throughout the ay, which led to him realizing I wasn't exactly feeling top notch. I got another text from him at 2:34 that afternoon.

Ayyyy so about tonight. I know you're not feeling 100%. If you still wanna do temple square I am super down. But if you'd rather not that's totally ok. If you want we could get dinner and have another Netflix watching date or something if you're up for it 😊

I considered it for a second before shaking my head to myself. I had been getting myself excited all day for seeing the lights, and I wasn't going to be a buzzkill about it.

I'm definitely down to do temple square, I'm feeling a lot better than earlier so I should be good 😊

We texted a bit more, deciding that he would pick me up around 6:00. I got ready with Ashley giving me advice on my outfit, settling on a tight gray mock neck sweater with dark skinny jeans, brown booties, and a huge maroon scarf that would keep me from getting more sick without looking like a grandmother from the 1880s.

"Have fun." Ashley told me as a knock sounded on the front door, "Tell Michael I said hi."

            I rolled my eyes.

"He doesn't know who you are, Ash."

"But if you end up dating him, he'll have to."
