Chapter Nine:
They made it back to Headquarters quite quickly, and Bruce had to carry a very drunk ad asleep Thor into the building. It was dark outside but she didn't bother to check the time, all she knew was that she wanted to go to sleep. They went separate ways, and as soon as Hazel turned into the living quarters she stopped, a familiar figure stood by the kitchen island.
"Clint?"
Clint Barton turned around and gave her a smile. "Hey, Barnes."
The two had met previously at different times, but it was always rushed. She had hung out with his kids a few times, and spent time with both him and his wife. It had been awhile since she had heard from him.
"I thought you disappeared."
"I did." He crossed his arms, "In a way."
Hazel nodded walking by him, "Night, Clint."
"Going to bed so early?" Tony appeared in front of her, "You don't even want to try on your new uniform?"
Her brows scrunched together, "I never had a uniform."
Tony huffed, rolling his eyes. "Fine. Do you want to try on your new uniform?"
"I get a uniform?"
"For gods sake!" He exclaimed, "Just Come with me, please."
Hazel followed him as he took off, leading her up two flights of stairs and into a room she had never been in before. Tony held out an arm and stopped her from moving forward anymore, he then made his way over to a panel and began clicking away at buttons. Something hissed, and the wall split down the centre and separated. A platform came out, slowly stretching out until it stopped just in front of her.
"Woah." Hazel's eyes widened, a uniform on a mannequin was propped up by two metal hooks. "Is this mine?"
"I thought you deserved a little something. Everyone else has one."
She poked at the fabric, "This looks like Nat's old uniform."
"Yah, well, I took that design and alternated it."
It was black, but had a white line crossing the shoulders and lined the sides until it hit a snug belt at the waist.
"Check this out." Tony grinned pointed at the white stripes, "This I got from the uh, the kids suit I had made him, I thought the white touch would look good. And, it changes colour."
"The stripe changes colour?"
He nodded, "To whatever element you're using, it will bend with it. Like if you want to burn some stuff, it will turn an orange colour or if you want water, it goes blue."
"Woah."
"I know, right." He agreed excitedly, "Wanna try it on?"
Hazel pursed her lips, "I don't want to ruin it."
Tony shot her a look, "Are you assuming my creations will just destroy themselves? Hazel, it's a suit made for fighting. It's freaking fireproof!"
"Fireproof?"
He nodded, a smile spreading. Hazel's eyes lit up, "How do we get it down."
He shook his head and walked over to the mannequin, and Hazel could see where he had touched as the suit seemed to grow in size and crumble around the plastics feet.
"Damn."
He carefully got it off and handed it to her, "I used the same technology that's in the Spider-Man suit. I mean, a button is much easier than zipping it up on your own."
She grabbed it, feeling the soft, stretchy fabric against her skin. "Bathroom's over there." He pointed across the room. Hazel raced over and slammed the door, struggling to get out of her training gear fast enough. When she did, she slipped her feet in and then struggled some more to get it on properly.
"Where's the button?" She called out.
"Double tap the chest."
"What do you mean double tap?"
"Just do it."
Hazel did, and she sucked in a breath as the fabric tightened around her body, not stopping until it was snug. She opened the door and waltzed back out into the middle of the room, the white stripe already changing various colours. She rubbed her hands together, spotting tings of white at the end of the sleeves.
"Try out a power." Tony said, "Any one of them."
Hazel nodded, and slowly a breeze formed in the room, which turned into a steady wind as curtains danced and papers flew off of a desk. The white stripe turned a dark grey, turning quickly into a light blue when the wind died and water from a nearby cup floated into the air instead. She let it drop back, and then the colours disappeared.
"This is awesome!" She cheered pulling the man into a hug, "This is the coolest thing ever!"
He chuckled and a few moments later pulled away from her, raising a finger. "I almost forgot." He disappeared into another room, leaving Hazel beaming in the other.
When he returned he held another piece of fabric, "There's a hood!" He shouted.
"A hood?"
Tony nodded, telling her to stay put as he placed onto her uniform. She heard a click and then a hiss, turning to see the man smiling. She raised it over her head and then posed dramatically, "How do I look?"
"Like a superhero."
She laughed, "Thank you so much."
"No problem." He told her, "Now go to bed."
"I thought it was to early for bed?"
He shrugged, "We have a big day tomorrow."
Hazel nodded, and gave him another quick hug. "Seriously, you are the best."
"I know I am."
She dropped her arms and glared up at him, walking towards the exit, towards her bedroom "Night, Tony."
"Goodnight, Hazel." He replied.
