"What was that about?" Omar asked as we exited the diner, bags in hand.
"Typical faggot shit. The gays wanting to be petty." I tried to say as little as possible. I wanted to focus on Omar and I didn't think mentioning that I had just had sex with AJ the day before would help.
"Well what did he say to you?" Sigh. This is exactly what I was trying to avoid.
"It was nothing important. I'd just rather not talk about it."
"Oh" was all he said. I knew that he wanted to know, but he knew that I wasn't gonna tell him so he just left it at that.
Everything after that was quiet between us as we got settled into the car and he out the car in gear, backing out of the parking space and heading toward my house.
"What are you doing after you drop me off?" I said, finally breaking the silence.
"I don't really have any plans, I'll probably just go in the house and eat and watch Netflix."
"Same to be honest. Want to come over? We can chill together. And plus, there's no school tomorrow."
As weird as it may sound, I was actually enjoying my time with Omar and I didn't want it to end yet.
He was a very sweet guy and having spent a whole day with him, I realized a lot about him that I hadn't previously noticed. He was a good person with seemingly good intentions which is really all I ever asked for in a guy.
"I—you sure?" he asked tasing an eyebrow at me, quickly glancing in my direction.
"I invited you didn't I" I said, letting out a small chuckle. "Do you not want to come or something?"
"No, I mean I do. It's just that before today, you seemed annoyed by all of my advances and just me in general. Now you're willingly inviting me into your home."
I let out yet another sigh. If you couldn't tell by now, I do that pretty often.
"I know, but it was stupid of me not to even give you a chance. Now that I have, I can't say I regret it. So once again, would you like to join me?" I wasn't getting annoyed, but I was also wishing that he'd just say yes and not make me explain myself.
"Yes, I would." We both smiled and enjoyed the rest of our silence.
The silence this time was actually a peaceful one and we were just enjoying each other's presence.
I felt his free hand slide over to mine which was resting on the divider. I followed his lead and let our fingers intertwine.

We pulled up to my house about 10 minutes later. We sat silently, hand in hand for the rest of the ride, occasionally glancing at each other and smiling.
As he pulled into the driveway, I grabbed both of our bags and food and made sure that I had everything else before getting out of the car. It was the least I could do because I was sure that he was going to come and open my door for me which he did.
"Thank you" I said, struggling to carry everything at once.
"You don't have to do that" Omar said, taking a few of the things from my hand, making it way easier.
He followed behind me as I walked up the walkway and toward the front door. I had texted my mom to have the door open so that I wouldn't have to struggle to look for my keys.
I held the door open for Omar before closing it behind him and locking it.
"Mom, I'm home! I also have company!" I yelled, trying to get here attention wherever she was in this house, if she was even home.
