Chapter Sixteen

I woke up to Maya gently shaking me. I quickly sat up and she held out her hand, waiting for me to grab hers. I did and we walked together to the elevator.

"So..Maya. I have a question" I said out of the blue. She raised an eyebrow at me and chuckled.

"Are you gonna seduce me into answering it again" She teased. I blushed and looked down, causing her to lift my chin with a finger and make me look at her.

"Hey. Don't do that. What's your question Sky" She said softly. The elevator dinged and we both got out together and went to her office. She went over to her desk and sat down, leaving me just standing there.

"Well. What am I restricted from doing or having?" I asked. That got her full attention. She looked over at me and raised an eyebrow again.

"Nothing"

"Nothing?"

"Nothing"

I stared at her. She couldn't be serious. Nothing? I smirked.

"New car?"

"Sure. What model and what color. Probably gonna take a day or two."

"Hmm. New phone?"

"Android or Apple?"

"The new one that just came out in the US. Apple" . That made Maya laugh. She stood up and kissed me.

"Sky, baby, you're not my pet anymore. You're my wife. Treating you like a pet seems wrong now, but old habits die hard I suppose. You've got access to all my money and I doubt you'll bankrupt me anytime soon. I changed a law for you, aren't you happy?" She asked. I was taken aback. She changed a law for me?

"You...changed a law for me? Which law? Why?" I questioned in return. She gently took my hand and led me over to her desk. She sat down in the chair and I just sat on the desk, off to the side so I wouldn't mess up any papers.

"One of the Pet Laws. You know the Law, even if you've been trusted with a necklace you're still owned and still technically their pet. You just more freedom. Marriage between pets and owners is the law I changed. Before it was if I married you, you still only had the freedoms of a trusted pet, no getting a job, no having your own pet, etc. Now, once you married me nothing is restricted. You can have your own pet, Get a job, etc. Whatever you want. Leaving the island is a bit more complex, especially for someone as high up as you are currently" She explained. My eyes widened.

"I could get a job?" I asked, smiling. She giggled and kissed me again.

"Yeah if you wanted. Maybe you should get your own pet, you'd make a damn good Owner" She suggested. I was rocky about that. But I nodded anyways, if it kept her in this weird good mood I was all for it.

This can't be real. Am I dreaming? I must be. There's no way Maya, the one who whipped me nearly 3 days ago, just suddenly changed a law for me so I could be a "regular" person. This is a joke. She's punishing me somehow. Maybe? But what if she's serious? Being her wife and after 19 years and being able to not be treated like I'm still meant to lick their boots or call them Master or Mistress. She's..being good to me?

"Maya. If I wanted to leave the island?..what would..." She shook her head and sighed, smiling.

"I'll explain it. Basically the law states that once you become a permanent resident, which happens after 6 months and 7 payments, you are allowed to go back and visit family or go on vacations, etc. But, there are rules and other things. The paper is given to you on the plane ride. One of them is that you cannot discuss much about the island, you can tell them about the scenery or the good jobs and the expensive price tag to stay, but nothing about the technology and nothing about the pets. In fact, the person or family who signs up to join us here have to wait a month after their first payment to get access to pets and technology. It's a whole big process" She explained. I smiled and shimmied myself a bit closer.
