Lucifer POV:
"I think she did it." Angel tells me, again.
"I don't think so. You do remember she tried to kill me because she didn't want to lose his love. Imagine what she would have done to prevent his death." I tell her. "I see how uneasy she is and I can see how her mental health isn't where it should be. She's tired, mentally and physically, and it's so easy to see that. She's clearly still in mourning, and with the twins she has I'm pretty sure she hardly gets any sleep." I tell her. "So I'm going to tell you the same thing from yesterday, I don't think it was her."
"Lucifer. I get it, she's your mate and even if you don't love her, you'll always have a soft spot for her. You didn't see how she was looking at you, like she finally got what she wanted."
"Yea, an alliance, Angel. A hand in helping to find who killed our spouses. You're reading so far into this, you're not seeing it for what it is." I shake my head.
"I give it a month." She says crossing her arms.
"A month?" I ask. "For what?"
"A month before you two have your tongues down each other's throat." I roll my eyes and walk away. "Calvin and Livy are dead. You two are destined to be." She growled. "If you really think you can work side by side day in and day out with your mate, even if you're in mourning, and not fall in love or do flirtatious things, or think about them in the latest hours of the night then you're delusional, brother." I shake my head at my oblivious sister.
"I get it. That's how you are when you're around Max. But here's the difference, sister. First of all Max is human and you two accepted each other. Cassandra and I are Alphas, who rejected each other and started a family with other people a-"
"She actually rejected you, but continue."
I hold back my growl. "And we were happy. Weren't even thinking about each other. This alliance is temporary, just until we find our killer. So can you please get out my ear, like a desperate, gossiping, thoughtless gnat?" I ask refraining from growling.
But she doesn't hold back her growl. "They're going to be here within an hour." She says before finally leaving.
I shake Wynters bottle in my hand, she drinks formula now, I'm not happy about it but my choices are limited. Some of the other mothers offered to pump, but I declined. It's a nice offer, but if it's not Livy's milk, I don't want Wynter to have it. So formula it is.
I give Wynter her bottle holding her as she takes in her 3rd meal of the day. Her eyes looking at the at me, our daughter is perfect. "Do you want to see your mommy?" I ask her, of course she doesn't respond. "I have a video, it's you two, my favorite video. Your mother was a terrible dancer." I smile. I sit down as I rest her into the crease of my elbow as I pulled up the video.
Wynter drops the bottle when she sees her mother, and gives me the biggest smile as she waves her arms. I forgot how innocent she is, how blissful and unbothered her mind is. She doesn't know her mother's dead, but she noticed she was gone. And watching the video of her mom dancing poorly as she gave me a flirtatious glare. Her mother was a real goof ball sometimes.
Livy was my first ever love and it feels like she was gone in a blink of an eye. It's not fair, not for me, not Livy, and certainly not for Wynter. She's never going to get the chance to know her mother.
A text bannered on my screen. "They're here." It read.
I don't put Wynter down. Earlier I was contemplating handing her over to my mother but I decided that I'm the only one that would protect her with my life, I don't trust the people walking through the doors. I only trust me.
