~Cyrus's POV~
Today was the day. It was the first meeting of the year for the newspaper club at Grant High School today, and it was going to be my first meeting as Chief Editor. I lived for this club, and not to flex or anything, but I think it's going to be an awesome year for the club if I'm the one heading it. I'm grateful for this newfound burst of confidence this year and I'll ride the wave for as long as I can.
I was extremely happy to have Buffy on the writer's team this year to be our sports writer. It was some of the only time I was able to spend with her considering she's with Marty a lot of the time. That doesn't bother me though. Marty is an awesome guy. Plus I'd do the same thing if I had a boyfriend. Though that is very unlikely to happen.
I haven't thought about having a boyfriend since...
"Cy-Guy!" Jonah said, cutting off my thoughts.
"Hey Jonah!" I smiled seeing his face all lit up. The guy had been all smiles since Principal Metcalf allowed him to make Ultimate an official sport here in the high school.
And yes you heard that right. The former principal at Grant High School got a new job in a different district, so Principal Metcalf was pulled up as his replacement. To think that we were rid of him just three years ago. Thankfully, he's a lot better these days.
"Are you coming to Ultimate today? We could really use the moral support for our first practice!" I immediately felt bad that I'd have to tell him that I couldn't make it, but he'd understand.
"I would love too, but the first meeting for newspaper is today and I can't miss it since I'm Chief Editor." I expected him to become sad, but he didn't.
"Oh that's fine Cy, I'll just move practice to tomorrow! Since I'm captain I'm allowed to be flexible with the schedule." He smiled and patted me on the shoulder.
"That's great. I'll be there Jonah." The bell sending us to first period rang as I finished getting my books from my locker.
"I'll see you Cy!" He smiled and walked off to class.
Me and Jonah had gotten closer over the years. With Buffy being off with Marty and Andi being busy doing her intense art projects for the high school, we were the only two in the immediate friend group that weren't busy all the time, so we hung out a lot and I definitely think he's one of the best guy friends I've ever had. I mean I've only ever had two, but Jonah has been there for me for way longer.
I walked into first period English and sat right next to Andi who had her sketch book out. She must've been working on concept art for the huge school mural she is working on. She wanted it to be perfect and we could all tell. All of her time was taken up by her drawing up ideas for the next section of the mural.
"Hi Andi!" I said enthusiastically causing her to look up and smile.
"Hi Cyrus! Did you hear that we're supposed to get two new students tomorrow? I'm very excited actually. Haven't had some new faces in awhile."
"Agreed." I simply said and put my English book on my desk. It was heavy as heck.
Class was fine. Nothing could stop my ultimate anticipation for the coming meeting after school. As we left class I had a thought.
"Hey Andi?"
"Yeah Cyrus?" Andi smiled and acknowledged me.
"Since we're getting new students tomorrow, do you think it would be okay if we interviewed them as part of the school paper?" I liked the idea because it was a way to put these new kids in the light so they can make friends. It's something I would want.
