Cath and Jest walked in total silence through the forest. Cathrine forgave Jest, and she was happy that she was back with him, but she was still worried that he may never retrieve the Red Queen's Heart in Chess. They were holding hands, but that was it. When they arrived at Hatta's hat shop, Jest was going to knock on the door, but before he did, the door slowly opened on its own.
Jest looked at Cathrine and she shrugged. Jest cautiously walked in, finding the room dark, the room more messy than usual. Hasta was sitting on his throne-like chair at the end of a long dining table in the middle, his hat covering half his face, and he had a chipped porcelain tea cup. He lifted it up to his lips, and they both starred at him as he sipped loudly.
Suddenly, Hatta stood up from his chair, not looking up; his hat still covered his eyes. "Here we meet again. And I thought I would see you on the other side."
He mumbled something else, but to himself. He finally looked at Jest. Then at Cathrine. He looked the same, but much paler than usual, he had eye bags around his eyes, but he still had sharp colored purple eyes that could pierce through you with one glance. He slowly walked up to Cathrine and took a good long look at her. Then He looked at Jest again.
"How?" Was all he said. "I-I made a deal with the sisters." Jest hesitated like he was going to say something else, but he closed his mouth. Hatta crossed his arms. "Of course you did." Cathrine wasn't really fond of Hatta, but he could be cool. Sometimes. "I'm sorry, is there a problem with me being alive again?" Cath snapped. "No, no of course not" he mumbled to himself after he said that, and walked to the table and lifted a kettle up. "Anyone up for a spot of tea?" Cath rolled her eyes.
"Look, that's very kind of you, but we don't really have time. We have to go to Chess. We need you to come with us." Cath almost cringed and looked at Jest. "Do we really need him to go? Can't it just be us and not soon-to-be-Crazy pants over here?" She whispered so only a Jest could hear. "Of course Cath, we need him. I know you two don't get along very well, but there isn't any other choice." He whispered back. Cath sighed and plastered a fake smile on her face.
Hatta took his cup and sipped more tea. "And why exactly do you need to go to Chess?" Hatta Said. "We..er... need to retrieve something for the sisters." Jest said hesitantly. "And what do you need to retrieve?"
Cath looked at Jest and he sighed. "We..um.. we need the Heart of the Red Queen in Chess." Jest mumbled this softly, so Hatta couldn't hear. Hatta lifted an eyebrow. "Your gonna have to speak up if you want me hear you."
"We need the Heart of the Red Queen in Chess." Jest quickly said. Hatta's eyes widened as he drank the tea, and he spit all the tea in his mouth from shock on to Cathrine. "UGH great. Thanks Hatta. Now I'm all wet." Jest handed her a handkerchief and she patted her face and dress.
Hatta started to chuckle, then it grew to a hysterical laugh as he bent over. Cath and Jest starred at him and both whispered, "he's going mad."
Hatta wiped tears from his eyes. "Your joking right. Tell me your joking." Cath and Jest said nothing. Hatta cleared his throat. "Oh..er your not." There was a pause. "Then tell me.." he said sitting on a chair and crossing his legs. "How in the world are you planning to do that exactly?"
"We haven't...er.. thought of that yet. That's also one of the reasons why we came." Jest said. "Well then, why don't we sit down, have some tea, and figure something out shall we?" Hatta said gesturing them both to sit down. Jest pulled the chair out for Cathrine, and he sat down beside her. Hatta grabbed to more cracked and chipped cups and poured in hot tea, and handed them to Cath and Jest.
"Shall we get started?"
