(This chapter may contain some moderate violence for all them young folks our there ;) )
Cathrine woke up to the sound of screaming. She stood up quickly and grabbed her small knife from her dress and gripped it hard. She couldn't see anything because her hair was all in her face, covering her eyes. Cath tried to move her hair out of the way, but it was really tangled.
"AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH" Hatta yelled kicking his feet up.
"What's going on? I can't see!" Cath moved around with her hand out trying to feel her way to Hatta and Jest. Jest quickly walked up to Cathrine, trying to avoid her swinging knife.
"Cath! It's ok. Everything is alright, Hatta just got shot several times by Cupids, and I was helping him take them off. " Jest said, removing her hair from her face gently.
"Cupids? Never heard of those before..." Cathrine put the small knife back in her dress. "Yeah, they are only seen in Chess. There these little fairy-like creatures that shoot you with bow and arrows, they are really tiny arrows though— wait you just carry that knife around with you?"
"Of course I do. You never know when you can be in danger, Jest."
"HI CATHRINE! OH..IM OK THATS FOR ASKING." Hatta said sarcastically. Hatta was sitting on the ground with his sleeves rolled up, and he had a bunch of little arrows the size of a Bobby pin, they were all around his arms. "Fine. ARE YOU OK, HATTA?" Cathrine walked up to Hatta at patted his head. Hatta blew a raspberry at Cath and went back to plucking the arrows out of his arms, mumbling to himself.
"Geez.." Cath walked back to Jest. "Look you bring a knife with you everywhere, and I bring, ok well, a lot of things but..." he said as he took his joker hat off and and pulled a hair brush out. Cathrine laughed. "Really? You brought a hair brush with you? And I thought I was the girl."
"Ha Ha. Very funny." He put his hat back on and gestured Cathrine to sit. "Of course I bring a brush. You know, this hair doesn't look like this on its own," He smirked and caressed his own dark curls. He brushed her hair for a while, and he put her hair in a braid. "I didn't know you could do hair, Jest." Cath said looking back at him after he was done. "My mom made me do her hair a lot. I don't know why since we had a maid..." Jest shrugged and put the Brush back in his hat. Hatta walked up to them, "I suggest we better get going..... unless you want to keep braiding each other's hair, in that case, I'm next."
"Ok,ok, let's go." Jest said getting up, then offering his hand to Cath's so she could get up. "Well then, let's go shall we?" Hatta suggested.

They walked for a while more, when suddenly a pack of Dog-like creatures appeared from a corner; they were HUGE, dark furred, with the teeth the size of a Sabertooth Tiger's. They were still far away, but Cathrine was the only one who saw them.
"Um, guys...what are those?" Cath said tightening her grip on Jest's hand. Hatta squinted his eyes in attempt to see what Cathrine was talking about. "What are you talking about—SON OF A HATTER!" Hatta said, who was in front of Cath and Jest (since he was guiding them), running behind Jest and peaked up on Jest shoulder. Cath tried hard not to laugh, she gave Hatta a look.
"What? Ok, I am pretty brave, and would fight if I have too, but HOLY HATS i hate Mutts. I'd fight anything but them." The Mutts cornered them; one of them barked and Hatta squirmed and Jump onto Jest's back. "EEEEEEEKK!" Hatta screamed; Cath thought he screamed like a girl.
Cath took her knife out from her dress. "Hatta you baby, get off of Jest's back." Jest looked at Hatta and lifted an eyebrow. "F-fine." Hatta slowly stepped into the ground, but one Mutt barked and attempted to Jump into Hatta, but he quickly jumped back on Jest. "NOPE NOPE NEVERMIND." Hatta yelled.
Cath rolled on the ground and stabbed the Mutt from under its stomach. It cried out and dropped to the ground. As she was pulling the knife out of the Mutt, another one was pouncing towards her. Jest threw Hatta of his back and he pulled a small sword out of his Hat. He threw his hat on the ground and threw himself on the Mutt before it could reach Cathrine. "HEY! YOU JUST THREW ME TO THE—you know what forget it." Hatta Said crossing his arms, as he backed up from the surrounding Mutts.
Cathrine noticed that Jest threw himself onto the Mutt; it was jumping up and down, trying to squirm out of jest's grasp. Jest grabbed the sword on both ends of it, and he threw his arms over the Mutt's neck, as if to choke him with it. Jest pulled the sword towards him, slicing through the Mutt's neck. The head, along with the body, fell to the ground. Jest fell on top of the body; he was covered in blood, he wiped his face and pulled himself up again.
Jest picked his Hat up and pulled another small sword out. "Hatta! Fight with this," Jest threw the sword to Hatta, who was on the ground trying to kick a Mutt that was tugging on his shoe. Hatta gripped the sword until his knuckles turned white and whipped the sword as hard as he could, the Mutt jump back and barked as it limped towards him. Hatta kicked the it and dug the sword into its side. "Phew.." Hatta Said, wiping blood and sweat off of him.
Cath plunged her sword into the creature, crushing its skull. A Mutt pounced on top of her, making her fall to the ground. It drooled all over her; it opened its mouth to bite her, but she took another small knife out of her dress (so she had two) and penetrated both of the knives into the Mutt's sides. It whimpered and collapsed on her. Blood seeped out from its sides onto Cathrine, she tasted blood in her mouth. She grunted and pushed it off of her.
"Need some help?" Panted Jest, offering his hand to lift her up. "Yes..please." Cath said breathlessly. There were still about three Mutts left, two since Hatta was fighting off one. Cath ran up to one and it barked, ready to attack. They stood there for a few seconds, before the Mutt ran toward her. She did a forward flip over it, landing on the other side of the Mutt. She slid across the dirt and sliced it from behind.
Her knees were covered in dirt, and she was covered in blood and bruises. Her dress was torn, and the braid in her hair was dirty, tangled and messy. She stood up, but suddenly collapsed back into the ground; she was weak, her hands and legs were shaking.
Everything was hurting. She saw blood all over her arm surrounding a deep and and wide claw marks that covered most of her arm. Her lip quivered as tears ran down her cheek. The last Mutt was a few feet away from her, growling as it walked slowly towards her. "J-J-Jest...Help me!" She screamed, her voice cracked. Cath couldn't defend herself, she could barely move. Jest ran toward the Mutt, and he flipped over Cathrine and landed on top of it. He dug the sword into it until he felt the ground on the other side of the body.
He drew the sword from the dead Mutt and left it on the ground, and he crawled over to Cathrine. "Cathrine, are y-you ok?" He said, inspecting the bruises, dirt and blood all over her. "Jest..." she sobbed. She held her shaking arm up to show him the the claw marks in her skin. "Cathrine, it's going to be ok—"
Cathrine didn't hear the rest, she collapsed into his arms, her vision blurry, until everything went black.
