This story will always be in John's POV unless I say otherwise.

I waited to go inside the classroom. Me and a few others in my school have been selected for this 'very special opportunity'. I tucked my shirt in as I waited, it always managed to untuck itself - probably because I fidget a lot. To be honest I wanted to get this over with, it is Friday afternoon and the only thing on my mind is going home and watching TV. I have no idea why they picked me out of all people for this 'surprise', I'm nothing special. I'm quiet. I'm socially awkward. I'm a bit of a nerd. A bit strange.

I've never really had many friends. I have a couple, Brian and Roger. I feel like I annoy them though. They are both very kind to me.

We were eventually let into the classroom. There was about 20 of us chosen for this 'amazing opportunity'. I was apprehensive about what was going on. I slumped down on a chair in the front row, slinging my bag on the ground too. A girl called Anita sat next to me, we are mutual friends and she is dating Brian. She was in the year below me and I felt comfortable around her.

"What do you think this is all about then?" She leaned over to talk to me

"Not a clue" I smiled

We were interrupted by a teacher, Mr Vale.

"Good afternoon students. You are probably wondering why we called you in today for this meeting." He said

"Well, Yeah" Anita whispered in my ear which made me giggle a bit

"As a school we have been given an amazing opportunity and we believe you are the bests students to represent us" he continued

Anita sniggered next to me, being the class clown she was.

"We are doing a student exchange with a school in India" Mr Vale finally said

Wow! India? That's incredible. I've always wanted to go travelling. But I don't know the language, how will I be able to talk to the exchange student?

"But we don't speak their language sir!" A boy piped up at the back

"They speak English, don't fret. This is an exchange where you learn the culture, not the language" Mr Vale explained

"What exactly will be happening?" A girl sat in the row behind me asked

"First of all you guys will travel over to India for 10 days and then a week or so later the exchange students will come here for the same amount of time" Mr Vale said

Conversation uproared in the room. All of us were very excited to go to India.

"India is full of culture! I can't wait to taste the food!" Anita's eyes were lit up

"I can't believe we were picked, we are so lucky" I smiled

"I know! I don't get how our teachers are sane enough to take a load of kids over to India" she laughed

I laughed too. She's right, who in their right mind would do that?

"We have to tell Brian and Roger!" She suddenly thought out loud

"Yeah. Come over to my house for dinner, get them to come over too. My parents are away visiting family in Leicester so I have a free house" I said

"Brilliant! I will tell them. What time shall we come over?" Anita asked

"6?" I suggested

"Perfect!" She clapped, "I'll see you then"

The bell went and we were allowed to go home. I picked up my rucksack and made my way out of the school gates. My house isn't far from school so walking home never takes long. I walked up the pathway and got the the door. I fumbled with the keys but eventually got the door unlocked. I walked in and immediately ran upstairs to get out of my school uniform. I always hated wearing that red tie, it was uncomfortable and flapped around in the wind.

I got changed into a pair of blue skinny jeans and a plain black t-shirt. I went downstairs and started preparing dinner for me and my friends. I decided on pizza, I knew we had an extra large cheese one in the freezer that we could all share. I dug it out and put it on the side so I could cook it later.

I sat on the sofa for the rest of the afternoon watching TV. I was quite excited for my friends to come over, I never really go out much. They always ask me if I want to go out but I sometimes say no. I don't want to seem clingy and annoying.

I heard the doorbell go so I jogged up to the door and opened it. Standing there was Roger, Brian and Anita. I let them all in before going into the kitchen to put the rather large pizza in the oven - it only just fit.

I went back into the living room and sat down next to Roger.

"Anita says you two have exciting news" Brian started conversation

"Yeah" I smiled

"We've been trying to guess all afternoon but she won't budge" Roger said

"You tell them" I said to Anita shyly

"Well!" Anita jumped up, "me and John were picked to do a student exchange in India" Anita made jazz hands

"Ah wow that's really cool!" Roger said

"Yeah! That's amazing!" Brian stood up and hugged Anita, "I'll miss you while you're gone though" he said quietly but we all still heard

That was a cue for Roger to make fun. He came over to me and started hugging me, "Oh John! Please don't go! How could I live without you!!" He tackled me down on the sofa and I was in a fit of giggles

"Shut it Taylor" Brian tried to be serious but couldn't help but chuckle when he looked down at Roger squeezing the life out of me

Once the pizza was cooked I put it down on the coffee table and we all tucked in.
