We got up the next morning and prepared ourselves for the day ahead. We had to do a few lessons in a classroom today and some sporting activities. Freddie says it will be loads of fun but to be honest, I'm not looking forward to it. I'm not sure how their lessons work and as for sport, shove it.
I put on some cotton shorts and a plain blue T-shirt. Freddie had his uniform on which consisted of a white polo shirt and brown shorts. Apparently they only have to wear their uniform if they are in a classroom. Freddie tends to change if he is going to get food or hang out elsewhere.
"What lessons are we doing today?" I asked Freddie, I had to call out so he could here me in the bathroom where he was perfecting his hair
"We start of with English, easy. Then there is Maths, difficult. After that we go out and play cricket or something like that, maybe football" Freddie said, "thanks to you we get shorted school days"
"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" I asked. I got the impression Freddie liked school but maybe it was just the social aspect instead of the academic aspect
"It's a brilliant thing. I can not stand lessons - apart from music and art" Freddie walked into the main room with his hair looking magnificent
I smiled when I set eyes on him, it was an automatic reflex that I couldn't help, "y-you like music?" I tried to continue conversation without getting distracted by the beauty standing in front of me
"Yeah. I sing a bit, play piano, a bit of guitar..."
"I play guitar! Bass guitar that is" I said, chirping up a bit for this time in the morning
"Oh wow! You should play it to me when I come to London" Freddie said
"I'd like that" I smirked playfully
"What other subjects do you like?" Freddie asked
"Music and physics mainly. I don't mind history too though" I said, twiddling my fingers
"Nice. Shall we go down to our first lesson?" Freddie quizzed
"Yeah, lead the way" I said before following Freddie around the school like a shadow
"Here we are, English class with Mrs Dhain" Freddie opened the door for me
I whispered a "Thanks" and sat down at a seat, Freddie came and sat with me
"Good morning class. It is lovely to see new faces in the form of our exchange students. Good morning to you, I'm Mrs Dhain" She sounded quite bubbly and jolly
"Is she a good teacher?" I whispered to Freddie
"One of my favourites" Freddie replied
I seem to have a lot in common with Freddie so I should naturally take a liking to this teacher like him. We seem to think the same thing at the same time and have the same reactions. It was weird. Kind of telepathic.
In that lesson we learnt about some English poems. It went quite well and by the end of our time here we have to learn the poem and say it out loud to the class. Any other day I would have backed out but I'm paired with Freddie and he gives me this new confidence that I can't explain.
We had maths next. Mr Hassan came and taught us. Nothing special happened in that lesson. We learnt some equations and had a bit of a quiz on it, that's all. Anita and Meena won the quiz, they got some sweets and Anita let me and Freddie have one. She is so kind.
We then went outside to do some sport. The boys decided to do football. I wasn't really looking forward to it and said I would sit at the line.
"Come on John!" Freddie pleaded
"I'm not great at sport" I said
"Me neither, come on!" Freddie pulled me up, I really had no choice but to join in
We were put into teams. Freddie was on the other team which made me a bit nervous because I only knew him and the boys from my school. I got told to be a striker, all I know is that they usually score goals. I saw Freddie was a defender, he looked happy on the other end of the pitch with his mates.
Mr Vale came outside and said he would be referee for the game. He whistled to signal the start of the game. The other team had kick off so I went in to tackle straight away and won the ball. I passed it to Tim, a boy from my school - he plays football a lot anyway so he was very good, and he ran on. I ran up to, towards the goal. Tim passed it back to me and I tried to get past the defenders. I came face to face with Freddie. I didn't know what to do so I just kept running. Freddie went to tackle me and I ended up on top of him. He landed with a thud and then I landed straight on top of him.
I got up a bit so I was kind of hovering over him. We both stared into each other's eyes, it wasn't awkward, it was...nice.
"Sorry" he whimpered
"Don't be, I tripped you" I said before rolling off of him and sitting up
Mr Vale was running over from the side line.
"Are you ok boys?" There was a hint of panic in his voice
"I'm fine" Freddie smiled before standing up
Freddie took my left hand and Mr Vale took my right and they pulled me up.
"I'm alright" I said, I probably wasn't convincing
"You boys go back to the dorm room. Have a break. I will come and check on you later" Mr Vale said
I hobbled away, Freddie took this as a chance to hold me up. He had his arm wrapped around my waist and I had my arm around his neck - for balance of course. We walked side by side back to the room.
