Chapter 15: Expect the Unexpected Pt. 2

Chris's POV

I'm in the study going over the wedding details that Sarah gave me from her and River's endless search through various magazines. It looks like they got a pretty good head start. However, we can't start booking until River and I set a date. Speaking of River. Where is she? That's when I hear it. A deathly feral growl. I got to my window and am shocked. It's Dan with River's dead pack. I sprint out of the house and into the yard. "Why Dan?" he throws his head back in menacing laughter. "Because, Chris, I've always been jealous of your alpha title. Besides. No one ever listens to the third in command." He growls and I stiffen. It's true. A pack really only ever listens to the Alpa and Beta. Except if they are away on pack business then most of the pack might listen to the third. River comes to me and she has her necklace in her mouth. I put it on her and she stands so strong next to me. I'm very proud to have her. Dan looks horrified as to what he's just witnessed. But he shakes it off. "Anyway. I reanimated this pack to kill you. So now once you and anyone that dares to fight is dead I will take over as Alpha." He keeps going on until I feel River tugging on the mate mind link. 'Yes, love?' 'Chris, I know something he doesn't.' 'What is it?' 'The moon Goddess told me even though he brought the pack back they are still decomposing. So over time they'll just fall apart, but I still have to howl. Otherwise there will be a bunch of wolf body parts wiggling around.' I come to realization that she is right. Even though Dan has an entire pack behind him they are still dead.

River's POV

After I tell Chris my info. I start digging, trying to muster the raw energy and strength to howl. It's hard though. It feels like it has to be triggered some how. But before I can search for it all the pack fighters come out in wolf form. Chris must have called for them. I look Dan in the eyes and internally kill him 900 times. He looks a little scarred by my death glare but is quick to return it. I give Chris my necklace and go stand next to Jake and Sarah. Dan suddenly starts laughing. "Why are you laughing?" Chris asks furious. "Well, I'm just going to enjoy killing all these wolves. Starting with her." He points to me and I snarl. Chris looks beyond angry and punches Dan in the face. The two shift and begin circling. Then they lunge. Everyone takes this as the signal to attack. I am a little hesitant because this is my family. But then I remember. I have to howl the forbidden howl. I just hope I can get it out. Right when I'm about to try channeling it I hear rustling and out runs a bunch of rogues. Great. Them I can fight. I lunge towards them and take them down as they come to me. I'm currently locked in a fight with a rusty beige wolf and I bite into its side. It yelps and bites my right ear. I yelp in pain as the wolf tears my ear off. Oh now you're gonna get it. I lunge for its throat and snap it's neck. When I look for Chris him and Dan are still fighting. The other wolves know not to get involved in a power fight. Especially that one. But it looks like one wolf didn't get the memo. It's running straight go Chris's side so I sprint towards him and leap over Chris and tackle the wolf. We lock in a flesh tearing battle until the wolf pins me down but before it can bite me I kick it off and it slams into a couple of rouges. Before I know it all the rogues are dead. By now Chris and Dan are a scratched up. Dan is much worse looking than Chris. They are currently circling each other and my old pack are still standing. We don't have any losses either but some look really beat up. 'River!' I hear Chris mind link me. 'Yes?' I can hear the sense of urgency in his voice. 'I'm going to lunge for the kill and when I kill him you have to howl. The dead will attack once their leader is dead.' I don't have a chance to respond when Chris lunges at Dans throat he snaps his neck instantly. Dans lifeless body hits the ground. The dead charge 'NOW!' Chris yells I plant my paws, tilt my head towards the sky and...
