Chapter 20: The end. Or is it?

Chris's POV
I can't believe I'm gonna be a dad. Currently I am in my office with Jake and our mates went out for lunch and baby shopping. Jake and I are going over rogue attack files on some of the smaller packs. We have recently gotten a request to come to a pack and train their warriors. It makes me wish I could take River. She's really good with the mental aspect of the training. But given her current state in not so sure. "Should I take River? She's incredible with the mental side of training." Jake looks a bit unsure. "I don't know. I mean she is still early in the pregnancy and she is a wolf. I guess she would be fine as long as she doesn't over do it or participate in sparring." I nod in agreement. It looks like I'm taking her. "I think I'll take her with me. But I might need someone with her. Just to watch over her." Jake lifts a questioning eye brow. "Now you're being the over protective mate and future dad. Remember, she'll be training a group. She won't be alone." "You're right. She'll be fine. Will you be okay to be in charge until we get back?"
Jake continues to look through the documents. "You doubt my awesome skills, I'm offended sir!" He says feigning hurt. I roll my eyes. After a few more hours we finish the paper work and head downstairs to look for our mates. We walk into the kitchen and the girls are cooking dinner. Jake walks up to Sarah and hugs her from behind. I walk up to my gorgeous mate and hug her from behind and place my hands on her little belly. She turns around and kisses me and turns back to cooking. Jake and I sit at the breakfast nook and watch the girls cook. "Sarah?" Jake says and she turns around. "Yes?"
"We got a request from a neighboring pack to aid them in training because of recent rogue attacks. Chris needs to go and he needs River to go too. What are yours and River's thoughts on this?" Both girls come over to us. "When will we leave?" River asks me. "If you want to go we leave tomorrow morning." She nods her head. Deep in thought. "Chris, you do realize her current condition right? It would be too strenuous." Sarah replies. "She would only be handling the mental side of training. Becoming one with your wolf. She wouldn't be sparring." River squeezes my hand. I look at her and she says, "I'll go. On one condition." "What is your condition my sweet?" She smiles, "Will you get me some pomegranate juice? I have been craving it all day." we all laugh. "Yes baby. I will get you some pomegranate juice." I look at Sarah and she looks like she's not telling us something. "Sarah are you okay?" Jake asks also guessing something is wrong. "Jake... I'm pregnant." she lift up her baggy hoodie to reveal a good sized belly. Quite bigger than River's. Jake gets up and goes to his mate. He hugs her close. Wary of her belly. "Why did you not tell me?" "I told River and made her promise not to tell. I don't know why I didn't tell you. I guess I just didn't know how." They pull away and he kneels down and kisses her belly. "Aahh!" I turn towards the sounds and River is clutching her belly. Before I can ask what's wrong she falls to the floor. Standing there is Caitlyn with a bloody silver knife. "What did you do?!" I kneels down next to my mate. I pull her close to me and listen closely. I can still hear hers and the babies heart beats but they're faint. "It's over baby. Now we can be together again." I snarl and lunge at her. "I will lock you up forever you will never see the light of day again!!!" I mind link some of the Warriors and they take her to the dungeon. I turn around and my poor mate is clinging to life. I pick her up and rush to the hospital wing. "Help please! She's been stabbed and she's pregnant!!!" A few nurses come out with a stretcher. "Lay her down. How far is she?" I lay her on the blue fabric on the stretcher. "She's a few weeks." They wheel her into the operating room. I fall to my knees and cry. My soul mate. My unborn baby. They could die. "Chris she'll be okay." Jake has his hand on my shoulder comforting me. "What am I going to do? I can't leave her. And I have to go to that pack tomorrow." "Chris you have three options. Stay and postpone, go alone and let us take care of her, or stay and send me." I get off the floor and sit in a chair. "I can't make a choice right now. I could loose my mate and baby. All thanks to Caitlyn. I want her dead!" Jake looks my in the eye. "Jake you know we can't kill a female. It's one of the oldest rules here. You can't kill a female in the pack. No matter what they did. All we can do is exile her and spread word of what she did. That way no pack will take her in. Rogue or not. She'll be forced to live as a lone wolf." I nod my head. "Okay. Go give the order please. I can't leave right now." Jake nods and walks away...
It's been hours. They haven't said a single word about how my family is. I'm about to go off and demand information when a doctor comes out. "Alpha?" I stand and go to him. "How are they?" "The Luna and her child are okay. When she was stabbed Caitlyn missed the baby and the vitals. There will just be a nasty scar." I nod my head. Relieved that they are okay. "Can I see her?" "Yes and she is awake and will be able to leave tomorrow." I go into her room and she's reading a book. "River, I'm so sorry this happened. You could have died." She looks at me. "Honey it's okay. It wasn't your fault and I didn't die. Which essentially makes me Batman." I smile and go to her and snuggle in the bed with her. "When can I leave here?" She asks after awhile. "Tomorrow." she lye her head on my chest. "Do you still want me to go with you?" I think on it for a little bit. "We'll see how you're feeling tomorrow." She nods and snuggles closer. I rub her little belly and soon I hear soft snores coming from my mate. She's fast asleep. After awhile Sarah and Jake come in. "How is she?" Sarah asks. "She'll be okay. Caitlyn didn't hit anything important. So her and the baby will be fine." They both let out a sigh of relief. "When can she leave?" Jake asks. They sit down on the chairs. "Tomorrow. She still wants to go tomorrow but I told her we'll see how she feels." Sarah looks at me long and hard. " Chris, I wouldn't take her. She just got stabbed. Let her stay and rest."
"I know. That's what I want for her, but you know how she is. She doesn't like to be viewed as helpless." River stirs slightly in my arms and I kiss her hair. The nurse comes in the room. "I'm sorry alpha but visiting hours are over." Jake and Sarah leave and say their get wells to River's sleeping form. When they shut the door River wakes up. "Chris?" "Yes?" She looks at me. "I never got that juice." She says with a cheeky smile. I laugh at her silliness and buzz for a nurse to bring the juice. After awhile a nurse brings in a bottle of pomegranate juice. I hand it to her and she takes a few sips and hands it back. I put it on the nightstand and cuddle close to her. We both fall asleep in each other's arms.
