Chapter 25

Troy got to school early. he waited outside the entrance and had a serious look on his face. he looked through the faces of the other arriving students. while watching here noticed eunjung and Jiyeon arriving together.

"well well. look who is back." Troy shouted out to them and putting up his hand to greet them.

"hey! thanks Troy!" Eunjung said running to him. Jiyeon scurried to catch up.

"you look good, how are you feeling?" Troy asked.

"better i guess." Eunjung said a bit bashful. "i have you to thank for that."

"thanks, but i didn't do anything. just cooked you some food." troy said shrugging.

"come on Eunjung" Jiyeon said tugging on Eunjungs vest. "nice talking to you Troy, but we have to get Eunjung caught up on everything she missed."

"yea, okay. ill talk to you guys later." Troy said as jiyeon dragged eunjung away. Troy waved to them as they entered the school. he continued to wait by the entrance. a little while after, Boram Qri and Soyeon came.

"TROOOOOOOOOOOOOY~" Boram shouted loudly across the courtyard.

"you could wake the dead with a voice like that!" troy yelled to her. they walked over to troy.

"nice jacket" boram said to him.

"thanks" soyeon said for troy, and troy smiled.

"youre here early." boram said.

"yea well. i was waiting for someone." troy replied."how cute." qri and boram said looking at each other."are you gona offer to walk me to class?" soyeon asked."this is awkward." troy said rubbing his neck. "but, it wasnt you guys i was waiting for.""ohh." boram said."we see how it is."

"hey, i didn't mean it like that." Troy tried prevent them from walking away.

"must be important guy stuff." Qri said.

"yea us women wouldn't understand complicated hockey talk." Boram added as they continued to walk around Troy.

"don't be like that." Troy pleaded.

"ill see you later Troy." Soyeon smiled and waved to him gently.troy returned a goofy smile. realizing he was probably looking awkward, he casually composed himself and leaned up against the entrance door frame trying to look cool. as he was adjusting himself to give off the coolest possible feel, he noticed Hyomin walking toward him, she was with her friend sunny and the pale girl named Sunhwa. as they got closer, Troy waved to them. they all waved back cheerfully, except Hyomin, who seemed rather unethusiastic upon seeing troy.

"hey Hyomin to you have a minute?" troy called out to her. Hyomin shook her head no.

"its important." he shouted again.

"Troy no!" sunny shouted back to him for Hyomin.

"i was told to talk to her for Eunjung...." Troy said making up any excuse to get her to talk to him.the 3 girls looked at each other and decided to go over to troy.

"well what is it?" sunny said.

"uhm. could you give us some privacy for a minute." Troy hinted to Sunny and Sunhwa to go away.

"fine. 1 minute" sunny said glaring at troy.

"yea, thats exactly 40 seconds." Sunhwa added.troy sunny and Hyomin just looked at each other.

"come on Sunhwa." Sunny sighed dragging her away.

"what do you want?" Hyomin asked.

"whats your problem." Troy asked her. "youve been avoiding me."

"im not really avoiding you, im just not putting any effort into interacting with you." Hyomin said bluntly.

"i thought we were friends? you were one of the first people i spoke to when i came here." Troy saidHyomin just looked at him. "a minute is almost up."

"hey im trying to be nice and figure out what i did wrong so could not give me an attitude?" Troy said getting frustrated. "did i say or do something to offend you, or are you jealous i got with Soyeon and not you? what? what is it?"

Hyomin looked at troy with a face full of anger. she pushed troy out of her way and went into the school. troy ran after her and grabbed her arm.

"let go of me right now." Hyomin said harshly under her breath to not make a scene.

"not until you tell me what i did to you." Troy said back looking equally as angry.

"youre a phony." Hyomin said to him coldly.

Troy looked at her confused. "im .. a phony?"

"acting like a big bad city boy womanizer." Hyomin said pulling her arm free from troy. "you had me fooled in the beginning. yea ill admit it. and maybe i was a little bit jealous when i found out you were taking Soyeon out on a date, but im so over that troy, now that i know what i know."

"o yea, and what do you know?" troy asked

"i found a little note from your "friend" Mou at the party. but no need to be nervous troy, your secret is safe with me." Hyomin said turning her head and flipping her hair in his face.troy stood there, unable to move. he felt his heartbeat begin to speed up, and his body grow warm. he remained in the position Hyomin had left him in, as if frozen in time as other students brushed passed him to enter the school.

"she knows?" troy asked himself. he of course never totally didn't believe Hwayoung when she told him Hyomin had stumbled upon something that day, but he didn't expect it to come to this. "relax" he tried to calm himself down. "if shes known all this time. . . she hasn't said anything. besides. shes just a single high school girl... no one takes Hwayoung and her theories seriously.. why would they take Hyomin seriously.."

Troy began to settle down. his tunnel vision faded and seemed to be coming back to reality. he noticed the new girl Areum was standing in front of him."don't sneak up on me like that." he said.

"i've been standing here for awhile." Areum said. "are you okay. you look pale."

"im fine, thanks." Troy told her fixing his jacket,  trying to remain cool.

"hey whats going on you 2." said Hwayoung appearing from nowhere and startling Troy.

"oh my god!" troy said, startled by her sudden appearance. "dont do that!"

"are you okay? you look kinda pale." Hwayoung said to him as well.

"well people keep sneaking up on me and scaring me" Troy said throwing his hands up.

"i noticed he was talking to a girl in a red vest. i think she turned him down or something." Areum said putting her hand on her chin.

"was it Soyeon? did she dump you?" Hwayoung asked.

"no Soyeon didn't dump me." Troy said.

"i think her name was Hyomin." Areum said looking at hwayoung.

"you talked to Hyomin?" Hwayoung said looking at him eagerly.

"yep." troy said calmly. he knew he had to avoid giving Hwayoung any fuel to fire her suspicions surrounding Jangs death.

"and the result is you looking all pale?" hwayoung said with a dubious look on her face.

"yea and it turns out she was mad at me for asking out Soyeon all along" Troy said as he started to walk away

"o so that note she found in your trash had nothing to do with it?" Hwayoung said, making Troy stop in his tracks.

"i guess not.." Troy said then began to continue walking on his way.Troy got to homeroom and his mind raced. he was trying hard to remain calm and not over react about Hyomin. Hwayoung came into the class, and she was with the new girl Areum. troy was skeptical seeing this, but figured it would be good if she got close to Hwayoung, it would be easier for troy to get to know her too. troy kept to himself for now figuring out what he should do about Hyomin.After school Troy paced around his house. he was with Mou and chad who payed him a visit they sat at his kitchen table watching him.

"i think someone knows about me... us." Troy said pointing to Mou and himself.

"is this why you brought it up the other day on the phone?" Mou asked.

"yea, i mean i didn't really believe it at first because the girl who warned me about it is just looking for anything to prove there is more going on with Jangs death than what the official account states," Troy said waving his hands in frustration.

"so, there's a possibility more than one person knows?" Mou asked again.

"no, well maybe. the girl who told me is more about finding out what really happened to Jang. she believes all the devil man rumors. im pretty sure she doesn't suspect anything about me. just that im not telling the truth about Jang." Troy explained.

"i see..." Mou replied

"but now, this dilemma i have the girl flat out said she knew my secret. what should we do? " Troy asked.

"we could take you off the mission." Chad said.

"so suddenly?" Troy said "i don't know if that's a good idea."

"well. you came here to play hockey. with the schools sports activities likely shutting down, you leaving wouldn't seem that far fetched." Chad explained to him.

"it is kinda shady to just take him out." Mou said pondering chads idea.

"yea and then to have another student come in would be weird too." Troy said.

"we'd probably would not try the student approach this time. we do have others in place outside the school like Mou here. they could carry on with the information you've passed on to us." Chad suggested

"wait wait you're really going to take me off this thing?" Troy said protesting. "i mean, come on its just the word of one girl..."
"but it got your attention and concerned you enough to tell us about it." Chad said.

"yea.. that's true but..." Troy started to say...

Mou pulled Troy aside and spoke to him privately."whats up with you." Mou said. "ever since you've come here, you've been acting... strange."

"its not like that. i just feel like i started this thing i have to finish it." Troy told him.

"i think you're getting too attached, you were attached from the start." Mou said "you think i don't see it, that i don't know it?"

"oh yea then why didn't you pull me out when you had the chance?" Troy asked.

"bad judgement i guess." Mou said getting in troys face. "we cant risk it now. not after being this close."

"i got us this close." Troy said pushing his forehead against Mou's

"and its appreciated, but i think we can handle it from here." Mou said.

"o yea? you think you can huh? you know any of the faces i know? you know who these potential marks are?" Troy said loudly.

"troy you aren't even 100% sure they are who we are after. the marks might not even be students." Mou said. "if the school shuts down its sports activities, we will be taking you off the case. im putting in the order first thing."

Troy had nothing else to say."Troy don't think we don't value all you've done so far." Chad chimed in. "we're just taking precautions to protect you and the progress you've made."

"whatever" Troy said blowing them off. "just do what you have to do then.""we'll be in touch." chad said saluting Troy.

Troy saluted half-heartedly back, and Mou and chad left Troys apartment.
