a few weeks had gone by. things were going good for Troy, despite the brief rough patch, he and Soyeon were doing well. there was no drama from Jun and he hadn't heard any complaints from Soyeon about her parents. No surprise visits from Mou, no accusations or speculations from Hwayoung or hyomin. Even areum, whom he had a deep gut feeling wasnt a normal person, seemed to be just that. He sat in his kitchen resting his head in his hand leaning over a text book. he clenched his teeth while Soyeon and boram danced in his living room. they had his furniture moved to the sides of the room.

"seriously, can you guys do that when i'm done. i'm trying to concentrate here." troy asked them.

"hey we need to practice as much as we can if we are gona win this talent competition." Boram said taking a break and joining him in the kitchen.

"i thought you said you didnt mind?" soyeon said laying down flat on his floor taking deep breaths.

"that was before i knew you were going to play loud music and dance around while making me do homework."

"well your grades were low. you need to study harder." Soyeon scolded him.

"yea troy. a tiara cant date a guy who barely scrapes by." Boram whispered.

"im not scraping by. i got B's.." troy tried to defend himself.

"you got 2 B's and all the rest were C's!" Boram argued.

"thats not scraping thats average!" Troy yelled, he slammed his pencil down. "and if you want me to study harder you shouldnt be distracting me! dancing around in your short-shorts and moving your hips all suggestively"

"well we can always go to Eunjungs.." boram offered.

"i meant just wait til im done, so i can watch." troy smirked.

"youre so bad." boram said shoving her hand in his face.

"shouldnt you also be practicing together. i mean the 7 of you are performing as a group right?" he asked.

"we do that, when we can. and when we cant we dont let that stop us from perfecting our routine." boram explained.

"if only you studied as hard as we practiced." soyeon teased. Boram and Soyeon continued to practice and troy did his best to study. His eyes always found their way off the pages of his book and over to soyeon, as she moved her body in ways Troy didnt think were possible.

"where did you guys learn to dance like that?" he asked.

"we just kind of picked it up on our own." Soyeon replied. "we've been doing it for awhile now."

"you guys are pretty good. im really impressed."

"we have to be perfect if we want to win this thing." she was determined.

"well based on what ive seen, with the hips and the short-shorts and tank tops, you will win for sure." troy nodded.

"your boyfriend is a pervert." Boram said.

"how is that perverted??" Troy yelled.

"because you only care about how we look and our hips! what about our perfectly timed routine, our technique, any of the other dance moves and our synchronization?" boram argued back.

"yea about that. just stick with the hip move the entire song..." Troy joked.

"ill kill you!" boram lunged up and ran after troy " do you know how hard we've worked?!"

"Soyeon, get your rabid beast of a friend to calm down!" troy panted as he ran around his table evading boram. Soyeon ignored them and continued to practice silently in the other room.

"Boram i just said you guys were good! it was a joke!" troy pleaded. Boram climbed onto troys table and pounced on him, knocking the air from his lungs, sending them both crashing to the floor. they both rolled over in pain.

"you are insane." troy said catching his breath.

"no one can stop the cannon ball of doom attack." boram laid on her back and put her arms in as if to celebrate victory. her arms plopped back down right after.

"I think you broke my ribs." troy whined.

"Troy get up." soyeon said walking over to him, standing over him, hands on her hips. "you can play hockey with guys larger than you, get bumped around out there like the toothpick you are and never complain. you can take on Jun and his friends but when this little cupcake of a girl jumps on you, you act like you are dying."

"yea be a man. stop looking for attention." boram groaned. Soyeon helped her up to her feet. Troy did his best to suck it up, but borams leap did hurt him. he eventually made it to his feet after a few moments and sat back down in his chair, tenderly rubbing his chest. Soyeon sat across from him.

"so do i need to take you to the ER or are you gona live?" soyeon asked sarcastically.

"im not sure." troy rolled his eyes.

"you still plan on coming with us to the competition?" she asked him.

"yea unless you dont want me to."

"well its because your moped is still in need of a tire." she said pointing outside

"wait you really want to take the moped all the way there? what if it rains?" Troy didnt think her earlier plans were serious.

"we arent all gona fit in Eunjungs car."

"boram could fit in the trunk." troy smiled.

"you want another dose of the cannonball?" she called out from the living room.

"alright then, ill get it fixed next weekend." troy decided.

"oh! next weekend thats right." soyeon exclaimed.

"carnival!" boram shouted.

"yes, the carnival will be in town." soyeon said happily. "youre taking me right?"

"uhm. yes?" troy wasnt aware of any carnival, but it appeared he was going to one.

"it usually comes this time of year. its small but fun. we always go. you'll love it." soyeon sounded excited and it made troy feel excited as well.

"sounds good to me." troy smiled. The coming week at school things were routine as usual. Except of course the day Troy woke up late for school on his way into the building he noticed an unmistakable figure sitting to the side of the courtyard. It was his sassy yet complicated friend Hwayoung. She sat up on a small wall that housed some flowers. he wasnt going to say anything but he felt like he should..

"everything ok?" Troy asked as he walked by.

" just finishing up this homework i need to hand in today. o.. and trying to shake off the whole 'i dont wana go to school today'' feeling" She sighed.

"youre a tiara, you cant think things like that." Troy smirked.

"please. im the edgy one. i give them the cool chic image." she bragged.

"you are more of like, the reckless and rebellious image." Troy laughed.

"maybe. but then so are you." She turned and glared at him.

"no. far from it." Troy waved his hands.

"you are. but you try to hide it. whether its because you are new here, trying hard to fit in, maybe just to impress soyeon...." hwayoung offered her opinions

"i want to know where you come up with these theories." troy shook his head.

"you ever going to tell me about that Evan person you were dreaming about?"

"i knew i should have just let you remain distant." troy went to walk away.

"but you couldnt resist me, could you?"
Troy stopped to turn to her.
"just trying to be nice. and look what it gets me. the hwayoung interrogation." he turned to leave again, but hwayoung grabbed his arm.

"youre the distant one troy. you can talk to me you know." Troy pulled his wrist free and glared at her from the corner of his eye.

"talk to you about what? youre crazy scenarios you make up about people?" he hissed under his breath... Hwayoung looked at him sadly as he walked away. "thanks." he said sarcastically "but there is nothing for us to talk about. now lets get to class we're already late." he walked ahead in a rush, eventually hwayoung reluctantly followed.

Later in the day- Troy caught up with Hank and Pryor at lunch.

"No soyeon snacks today?" Pryor asked Troy as they sat together at the lunch table.

"nope." troy simply replied.

"so you get any other 'soyeon snacks' yet?" Hank said nudging troy with his elbow.

"no, but ill tell her you asked." Troy smirked.

"you'll get a nice soyeon smack for that one Hank." Pryor said slapping his own hand as a display.

"and before either of you take this conversation down that dirty road, im gonna ask you now, will you be able to use your moms car to help me get my moped repaired this weekend?" Troy asked Hank.

"no can do my friend." Hank shook his head. "my moms car needs repairs too im afraid."

"youre joking right?" troy asked desperately.

"no man im really serious. you need it fixed that bad? i mean youve been doing fine without it all this time."

"well, i gotta take Soyeon to that karaoke thing. i need it running in good shape to get us out there. the sooner the better." Troy explained.

"its only a flat tire." Pryor said.

"yea but it hasnt been used in a long time. thats not good for an engine. sure its still pretty new but i just want the trip to go smooth so i want it to get fully tuned. i cant take any chances."

"youre probably over reacting but i see what youre saying. as far as my moms car, i dont know when it will be fixed. so i dont think i can help you right now, sorry man." Hank apologized.

"looks like im gonna have to ask Eunjung...." troy sighed.

After school-
Troy held his phone in his hand and stared at it. he knew he had to ask, but he was nervous... he slowly dialed soyeons number and waited for her on the other line.

"hello?" soyeon answered.

"hey Soyeon, its me."

"oh, hi Troy, whats going on?"

"nothing much, nothing much. just sitting here." he made small talk.

"are you studying and working hard?"

"of course, harder than ever." he said forcing it out.

"thats good. so, whats on your mind?" she asked.

"uhmmm well. you see. the thing is. i have this problem right..."

"Troy! spit it out." Soyeon demanded.

"ok, i am. so like was saying, my moped right, i asked hank and his car isnt an option and so well, i... i .. was thinking if its ok with you of course.."

"troy, what are you saying. youre not making sense." Soyeon said getting impatient.

"i asked hank to use his car to help get my moped fixed but he cant!" troy said getting worked up.

"so then ask eunjung!" Soyeon replied. troy was not sure if she was serious.

"youre, cool with that?" he asked.

"yea whatever, just get it fixed. and dont go running around town together behind my back."

"ha ha." troy said not very amused.

"so was that what was bothering you silly? anything else?" she asked.

"just that and wanted to hear your voice."

"well, you got both, are you happy?" she said cheerfully.

"very much. thank you."

"good, now go do your homework and stop slacking." she said.

"ill talk to you later!" he replied and hung up the phone."that was easier than i thought." he thought to himself.

The weekend was finally here.
- A lot of Troys school mates were talking about the carnival all week. everyone was getting ready to have fun. Before the carnival though, troy had to go to a mechanic and get a new tire for his moped. Eunjung was kind enough to drive him. Back at his house he worked in a hurry to get the new tire on. Soyeon and a few others were all meeting at Troys house before heading to the carnival.

"do you need help?" eunjung asked concerned, watching troy struggle with the moped wheel."i can do it." he grunted finally getting the tire iron to budge, unscrewing the bolt.

"Jang wouldnt let me help him with his car either. must be a guy thing." Eunjung giggled.

"actually, where im from, guys like girls that wanna help with mechanical things like this." troy said as he tossed the flat tire aside.

"so, whats your deal then?"

"i like girly girls." Troy smiled.

"no. you dont want me to insult your manhood. 'im so manly i must fix this by myself, no woman can help me!"" Eunjung mocked troys voice and flexed her muscles. Troy watched her with dull eyes.

"seriously though, i got it. if i need you, i will let you know." Troy assured her. Troy finished putting the new tire on he went inside to change his now sweaty shirt. afterward he came out to the kitchen where eunjung was sitting looking through her purse.

"can i ask you something?" eunjung said to him. he pulled 2 boxed juices from his fridge.

"sure." he tossed one to her.

"how are you and soyeon doing?"

"better..." troy said.

"arent these drinks for kids?" eunjung asked as she pushed the straw into the box.

"if you dont want it, give it back." he said putting his hand out.

"no way i love these things." she said holding it tightly.

"thats what i thought.... but yea things are good. i thought she would tell you guys everything" troy said he leaned against his fridge.

"she does. vents all her frustrations." she giggled.

"and never the nice things... typical." troy rolled his eyes.

"so you guys have worked it all out?"

"yea. i think whatever rift she had going on with her parents at the time helped us bond a little more." Troy shrugged.

"thats good."

"its good and bad. like i feel bad her fighting with her parents made us.. close. i want her and her parents to get along.

"well of course, we all do. but people butt heads sometimes. this includes families. and when it happened to soyeon, you were there for her." eunjung tried to make him feel better.

"but i didnt really do anything i didnt even have anything to say to help her."

"troy you arent always going to have answers for everything. and sometimes you dont need an answer, you just need to listen, and to be there." she explained.

"but anyone can do that. anyone can listen. anyone can be there." Troy said feeling a little insecure.

"troy you have to stop. its not your job to fix everyones problems. its noble of you to want to help. its appreciated. but when you cant, its ok. it doesnt make you look bad."

"it is my job to fix soyeons problems." troy replied

"no, its soyeons job. troy..." eunjung was confused by troys behavior.

"lets just forget this." Troy said regretting saying anything.

"no, troy you need to start telling yourself you deserve to be with soyeon. thats what you feel isnt it? youre not good enough?"

"i feel like i talk about this all the time with Hank and Pryor. No, im not good enough!"

"Troy! you are! you are a great person you know everyone thinks that. even soyeon. why else would she be with you?" eunjung stood up and shouted at troy."im all these great things. im this great guy. but i still feel.. to soyeon im.. im... not."

"then dont be with her." eunjung said hanging her head.

"i probably shouldnt be!" Troy said in frustration.

"so then be with someone who will make you feel that way." Eunjung stepped toward troy and took his hand. His eyes widened unsure of her intentions.

"Troy, I can make you feel that way." she looked up at him, with a gleam in her eye.

"Eunjung, you're Jangs ... i mean. wait.." he stammered

"the things youve done for me, the way youve helped me. Troy, you made me feel alive again." she placed her hands on troys face, his stiff body dropped his drink to the floor..Before he could react, Eunjungs face rose to his, and her soft, moist lips gently pressed against his. Troy stood frozen. his heart beat sounded like thunder and felt like it exploded. his felt like they filled with cement.. he couldn't even think. He felt Eunjungs breath from her nose tickle his upper lip, her tongue slide into his mouth.. when his door opened suddenly.

"Troy, do you not hear me knock...." Soyeon started to announce as she stepped inside before coming to a angry halt. Eunjung snapped away from troy, who still stood with eyes bulging, still unable to speak or breathe paralyzed in shock. he could only see Soyeon standing behind Eunjung in his doorway, with a mixed look of disbelief, disappointment and wrath in her eyes...
