After a moment, he spoke. “Do you miss her?” His voice barely a whisper.

In three words, she broke his heart. “All the time.”

He whispered something making her turn towards him. He bent down looking down, and he appeared to be rubbing his left hand.

“What did you say?” She asked.

He took a breath staring at the ground. “It should have been me. I should have died she was just starting her life and was slowly falling in love. My life wasn’t worth it she should have lived not me.”

She was startled by what he said looking down at the man in front of her. The man who never seemed to be afraid of everything, the happy man who appeared like he would always be happy, and the kind soul who loved with all his heart. But this man, she did not know. Part of him was gone destroyed from the grief of losing his best friend. “Uncle Rory?” She asked, concern present on her face.

“I should have been able to fight them off. They were right I can’t protect anyone I love they always die and leave me alone to suffer by myself.”
She stared at him not knowing what to say. Until he bent down getting in a praying position. He started go glow it being only a soft glow at first and beginning to brighten. “What are you doing?” She asked stalking closer

“I love you flower and this is for you. Think about me from time to time.” He pressed a kiss to her forehead and gasped in pain clutching his arm. He screamed glowing so bright she couldn’t see him anymore.

“RORY!!!” she screamed covering her eyes. Then the light stopped, but so did the screaming. She uncovered her eyes watching as her uncle turned into golden specks of light flowing away in the wind. “NO I CAN’T LOOSE YOU TO COME BACK YOU COWARD!” she begged falling to her knees and starting to sob. She didn’t hear the footsteps coming from behind her.

“Etta what’s going on?” Someone asked from behind her. “Where is Rory?”

Etta turned around recognizing the voice instantly. “Zora?”

“Yes, what happening? Where is Rory? Why are you crying and a teenager? What happened to my daggers?” Zora started to ask extremely confused.

Etta rushed up to her before she could realize what was happening. She hugged her squeezing her so much she couldn’t breathe. She released Zora looking her up and down, then hugging her again. “How are you here you were dead?”

“I don’t know! Wait, I was dead what?”

“You seriously don’t remember!”

“No! But where is Rory!” Zora asked looking around.

Then realization came across Etta’s face. “He traded himself for you to be alive.” She whispered.

“NO!!” Zora screamed falling down to her knees, “no you idiot I need you get back here!”

“No,” a voice came in the wind making them both stop. Gold specks went together to form a ghostly image of Rory. He tucked a strand of Zora’s hair behind her ear, smiling down at her. “I have had my chance at life more times than one. It’s your chance to live your life this time. I love you, you will always be like a sister to me! Tell Jarred until the next chess game my friend,” Rory said starting to fade even more than he already was.

“Rory, how will I live without your annoyance?” She asked rubbing tears from her eyes.

“You have her you will find a way.”

“But I don’t want to!” She said.

“You have to goodbye, Zora Ly, my Princess of Darkness,” Rory whispered finally fading into the wind not to be seen again until the end of their time.
