WADE'S POV:
Past.
Peter and I had just made a stop to get some food and we were about to catch another train heading to the destination we were given.
When we finally saw a train passing, he sneakily looked around to make sure no one would see. He grabbed me and shot a web up to the train, landing gracefully on the roof as I-
He stumbled and almost fell.
So much for the superhero landing...
"Damn, I missed this." I sat down, about to eat my food.
Peter chuckled and sat down next to me. "How long has it been ever since you grabbed Mexican? Three days?"
"Exactly, and that's a very long time." I shrugged lifting my mask up to my mouth so I could tale a bite out of my delicious chimichanga. By that time, Peter was also eating with his mask not completely off either.
We watched the sunset fade into the night as it started getting dark.
After a while it got completely dark, the lights of New York's buildings lighting up the night. We were both laying on our backs in complete silence.
"What was their name?" Peter finally asked me.
I wanted to play stupid, but I knew exactly what he was thinking about.
I didn't answer.
"Her name was Gwen." Peter decided to keep going, realizing my silence wouldn't end anytime soon.
"She was amazing, smart, selfless. A beautiful girl, just like my uncle Ben said. And then he passed. And so did Gwen's father. And so did she. And so did my childhood friend, Harry." He said in a quiet, sad tone. It seemed like he was trying to keep going but it was too hard for him.
"Gwen died five years ago, because of me." He sighed, trying to hold back his sobs. "I couldn't save her."
I kept being silent, hearing his story.
"Before that, Uncle Ben was killed by a thief."
"And Gwen's father died fighting besides me, as I promised to stay away from her."
"Then there was Harry. He deserved so much better."
"And as time passed by, I realized..." Peter continued. "I can't always save everyone. I learned that, again and again."
"I miss Gwen. I loved her so much. But I just couldn't stay away from her like I promised, and I hurt her..." He mumbled, starting to sob.
The boxes were quiet, they were keeping their distance. Usually at times like this Yellow would say something insensitive, or White would make random commentary. But no.
I was in charge.
Peter got up and sat on the opposite way of me, his back facing me. He took off his mask to wipe his tears away and sniffled.
"I'm sorry, I-"
"Her name was Vanessa."
Peter turned his head around to get a glimpse of me. I saw his puffy, red eyes stare at me in disbelief.
"She was... Truly something. She was so pretty, so brave. I loved her so much." I finally said.
"Some guys after me shot her instead. Vanessa... she was killed. She died in my arms. I couldn't save her."
I slowly moved closer to Peter, and when I was close enough I hugged him from his back. Peter exhaled in relief.
I held his one hand that wasn't gripping onto his mask. I took his hand over to mine, showing him that it was okay for him to take it off.
With another sob, Peter softly grabbed my mask from the back of my head and pulled it off slowly. He held my mask in his hands, staring at it. He hadn't looked over at me yet.
I was truly scared of his reaction.
He turned around and looked at me, his expression never changed. No sign of disgust or horror, just Peter's caring look.
"Wade, you look-"
"Like an avocado had sex with an older, more disgusting avocado? Like a testicle with teeth? Like the inside of-"
"Wade, no! You look beautiful!" Peter said truthfully, his voice cracking a little from crying earlier.
I was shocked. I stared at him with my eyes widened. "What...?"
Peter smiled and nodded.
There's that smile again. I truly did miss that.
Peter turned towards me and looked into my eyes, as I was still standing there like an idiot staring in disbelief. He placed his palms on my cheeks with that smile of his still there.
His lips met mine. He chuckled and his forehead pressed against my forehead in a moment of silence. I smiled.
I was truly happy. I hadn't felt like this in a long time.
I can't believe Peter was the one to take initiative. You should call dibs on who's the top of this relationship.
I ship it.
Ugh.
But hey, look on the bright side. You can't die like the others.
But Peter can...
The sudden thought had shaken me.
