Moving In

The Doctor skips ahead of me as we leave my flat and begin to walk back to the Tardis.

I don't meet her gaze, only walk into the Tardis and down to my room.

Once in, I slam the door behind me and start to cry.

Why did I ever think The Doctor was even a little bit in love with me?

~One Hour Earlier~

"So, what do you do when my mum opens the door?" I turn to The Doctor with a serious look on my face.

I really don't want her to accidently screw it up by saying or doing something she shouldn't.

My mum needs to say yes to this.

The Doctor thinks for a second then her face lights up.

"Oh! I say hello to your mum and then compliment her... Hair?"

I can't help but smile at The Doctor as we walk.

"Close enough."

The biggest decision of your life is being made right now.

Let's hope everything goes to plan.

"Well, this is fun!"

The Doctor and I are sitting next to each other at a table, with my mum at the opposite end, pen and notebook on hand. Ready to interrogate.

Ready to destroy more like.

"Is everything a big joke to you, Doctor?"

"Mum!"

I turn to look at The Doctor, her face hidden behind her hair.

She looks up at my mother for a moment then turns to me.

"No, it's okay. Maybe I'm not being serious enough."

After a moment's hesitation, she continues.

"Miss Khan, my name is The Doctor. I'm a Time Lord... Well, Time Lady now. When I first became a Time Lady, my spaceship, well, police box, crashed, mostly because she's a grumpy meanie who doesn't like it when I change and it's not like I can even control that and it's not fair on me for her to fling me into a train, is it now?"

The silence that comes after The Doctor has spoken is filled with pressure, so much so that my ears start to ache. The pain makes me keep my mouth shut and not want to say anything.

My mum certainly has no trouble saying anything.

As per usual.

"Doctor, what is your point exactly? Why should I trust you with my daughter after all that... Nonsense?"

I look at The Doctor expectantly, mentally encouraging her to continue.

However, it seems my words have little effect as she then hangs her head in what seems to be defeat.

I can't keep quiet any longer.

"Mum, The Doctor is the most amazing person that I've ever met. She's been so kind to me and I just want to return the favour, why are you being so difficult?"

My mum scoffs and rolls her eyes in exasperation.

"You're the one who wants to run away with this mad lady with a box! I just want to protect you Yasmin."

Now it's my turn to roll my eyes.

"Mum, I'm old enough to protect myself!"

"Well, fine, leave then!"

"Good, I will!"

I shoot up from the table, grab The Doctor's hand and tell her to wait outside.

I don't know why I bother with my mum sometimes.

Angrily, I rummage around for my suitcase and begin to open and close drawers, throwing in any clothes that I see.

Once packed, I give my mum a look from the hallway.

One last chance to apologise.

She holds eye contact with me but only for a minute, having enough, I slam the door to our flat and walk out with one hand in The Doctor's and one hand on my suitcase.

"Yaz, please, we can't just leave like this."

Angrily, I turn to The Doctor.

"Why can't we!?"

"Well, beca-"

"Isn't that what you're going to do at some point, just up and leave Ryan, Graham and I?"

"I-I don't kno-"

"Exactly, you don't know!"

"Yaz, stop, you're meant to be my friend! Friends are meant to be there for each other!"

I throw The Doctor such a look of anger that she seems to flinch.

"Whatever Doctor."
