A Mutual Level Of Understanding

Once we reach The Doctor's room, she opens the door for me with a small smile on her face.

"Sit anywhere you like."

I almost laugh out loud at the irony of the sentence as I cast my gaze around her room.

Books everywhere.

"Umm..." I frown as I try to figure out where to sit.

Gently, I take a stack of books from the corner of the bed and place them on The Doctor's beige carpet, watching as they slightly sink into the soft material.

Books now gone, I sit.

"So, what exactly happened outside with Ryan?"

I grit my teeth in anger at the mention of his name.

I still can't believe he confessed to me.

"He told me he likes me."

Nervously, I look up at The Doctor through my eyelashes and try to gauge her reaction.

Which seems to be one of joy apparently because she's smiling really hard.

"He likes you?" She asks me excitedly.

"Yes," I state slowly, not quite understanding why she's so happy.

"Sorry Doctor, but why are you so happy about this?"

"Oh sorry! It just explains why he's been so upset lately. It must have been because he saw how we've been behaving lately and caught on to what we are to each other."

That reminds me, I should ask her about that.

"Doctor?"

As soon as I say her name, it seems like all of The Doctor's attention is on me.

Her eyes seem pulled towards mine like magnets, taking all of me in at an alarming rate. Like she's trying to remember every exterior detail about me as if she's never going to see me again.

It's really unnerving.

"Doctor, are you listening?"

"Yeah, totally." She flashes me one of her bright smiles so I know she's serious.

Satisfied, I carry on.

"What are we to each other?" I ask, my voice barely a whisper.

Silence fills the room as my question hangs in the heavy air.

I begin to fidget with my hands on my lap as I wait for The Doctor to answer.

"I think we're girlfriends. Is that what you humans call it? Time Lords don't really have labels like that on Gallifrey. Well, didn't."

I see a flash of pain cast itself onto The Doctor's face but, before I can ask about it, she starts to ramble again.

"I think, because we're two females, we're girlfriends. I mean, does kissing someone you like then make them your girlfriend? If so, what are the limitations to that? If I like someone else, which I don't, does that then make them my girlfriend? If Ryan kisses you, is he then your boyfriend? I understand the feeling has to be mutual but, in some cases, people fall out of love with a person and still kiss them, providing evidence that the absence of love does not then mean that you can't kiss someone. Or is it all about consent? Consent, a very tricky thing you male humans sometimes disregard. In my opinion-

I can't take this anymore.

I plant my hands on the bed, on either side of The Doctor, and take her lips in mine.

Anything to get her to quiet down.

One of my hands finds its way to her cheek while the other one rests lightly on her thigh, respectfully close to her knee.

She smiles against my lips as she rakes her hair through my hair, my scalp tingling beneath her fingers.

A small chuckle releases itself from her mouth as it travels down south to the small of my back, resting just on the base of my spine.

The Doctor begins to lean back into the bed, my leg lightly locked in between hers.

As her head hits the pillow, she breaks the kiss.

"What was that for?" She asks as a small smile makes its way onto her face.

"You talk a lot."

"I know" She whispers before lightly pecking my nose.

A serious expression suddenly makes its way onto her face as she stares deeply into my eyes.

"Yaz."

"Yes, Doctor?"

"You mean a lot to me, you know." Her eyes twinkle with honesty as she begins to lean back in to continue the kiss.

"Do I?" I question, teasing her by moving back before our lips can connect.

"Yes, I like you loads."

"Thank you."
