summertime nostalgia

there's something about the summertime
that brings me back to a simpler time
of carefree innocence, giggles, and bliss
where grandmas don't die
and loved ones aren't missed

in the summertime
the flowers will bloom
the dandelions sing
their happy tune
opening to a new day's rhythm
as they spread their positivity
with the color yellow

and even though night fall will come
before i rest my weary head
at dusk
i get to listen to the bird songs of
love,
for mating season is in the air
it's summer time

let it flourish with flair
as the breeze blows through my hair and against my eyelashes
and the sunshine feels like
golden magic when it touches
your skin

but be sure to wear your sunblock
or face the wrath
of a sunburn so wicked
a tomato would laugh

and a storm rolls in
tossing and turning throughout the wind
and the raindrops fall
they plummet with style
but we can dance in the rain
with a fat happy smile
just watch for lightning
and rolls of thunder
just don't get zapped

sure the angels bowl
everybody knows that
but you'd better hope they don't get a strike
for
you'd be in a for a mighty fright!

and watch out for those bugs
that want to plunder
your blood supply

mosquitoes
and
ticks
and
spiders

oh my!

and the worst of all
those nasty yellow jackets
thank god for the
frogs, and the spiders, and... RAID!

God bless those life savers
what a sweet miracle it is
yes indeed!

make sure you wear your flips flops
oh what sweet sorrow it is
licking your popsicle
and stepping barefoot
on a poor bumblebee's posterior
YOUCH!

and as the sun starts to set
and when the day comes to an end
and i climb into bed
i look with hope towards tomorrow
where
we get to do it all again

and i can't help but wonder
what's next?

and here's to hoping
that summer time
doesn't have to end.
