It's 7:30 AM now, and Lilly's eyes are wide open. Ever since Ethan left, she stayed lying in her bed, scared that Ethan might come back. Her whole body refused to stop shaking, even hours later after the attack. Her stomach growls from hunger, but she stays in her bed, quaking with fear, anticipating Ethan's next attack. Although, if he did come back to hurt her, there was nothing Lilly could do. She thought about grabbing her bat and using it in self defence if he came back, but she was too afraid to move, too afraid to make a noise in fear of it triggering Ethan to come back.
Suddenly, the door swung violently open, slamming the door knob into the wall. Lilly's heart fell out of her chest, her mouth opened to scream but no sound came out. Jasmine stood on the other side of the threshold, looking surprised. When Lilly recognized that it was her mother, her heart started beating again.
"Oops, the wind pushed the door open faster than I wanted it to," Says Jasmine, before moving a section of her hair behind her ear, "anyways, breakfast is ready, if you're hungry."
Lilly's eyes begin to fill with tears, before exploding down her face in a rapid waterfall.
Jasmine rushes over to Lilly, and immediately brings Lilly in for a hug. Lilly flinches in pain, causing Jasmine to pull away.
"What's wrong, Lilly?" Jasmine asks, very concerned.
Lilly is engulfed in fear as she recounts the early morning's events in her head.
"He..." Lilly says, before crying harder.
"He what? Who's he?" Jasmine questions
"What's wrong with Lilly?" Ethan asks, standing in the doorway.
Lilly feels like screaming at the sound of his voice, but she doesn't. Instead she holds it all in, wipes away her tears, and put on a smile.
"There's nothing wrong with me, I was just practicing for the school play." Lilly says
"Wow, that was very convincing Lilly." Jasmine says with a bit of unease in her voice.
"I've seen better." Ethan says, looking unimpressed.
"I should keep working on it, mom, Ethan, do you mind leaving me alone for a while so I can practice?" Lilly says
"Over course, Lilly." Jasmine says, still feeling uneasy.
Ethan turns around and disappears into the dark hallway.
"Why didn't he turn on the hallway light?" Jasmine asks rhetorically
"Mom?" Lilly asks, softly and with worry
"Yes?" Jasmine asked, looking at Lilly with concern.
"I love you." Lilly said, with tears forming in her eyes.
"I love you too." Jasmine says, before walking out of the room.
She turned the hallway light on, and Lilly felt confurt in seeing her mother walk away other than seeing her disappear into the darkness.
Once her mother was out of sight, Lilly opened the flood gates to her eyes and cried until there were no more tears to cry. She lifted her shirt up to see the bruises Ethan must have left behind. They were red and all over her stomach and sides, but mostly her stomach, where he hit her the most. She slid her shirt back down and slowly and painfully pulled herself out of bed to eat breakfast.
The smell of chocolate and pancakes greeted Lilly's nose as she walked into the kitchen.
The table hosted a small plate with three chocolate chip pancakes and a bottle of syrup inches from the small plate and one fork on the other side of the plate.
Lilly pulled out the chair and sat herself down at the table, with the pancakes in front of her.
Just as Lilly grabs the fork Ethan comes into the room.
"Eat up, piggy." Ethan says in a serious tone
Lilly jumps at the sound of his voice.
"Awe, did I scare you?" Ethan says, in a taunting voice.
Lilly doesn't answer, she just stares at her pancakes.
Suddenly, Ethan lunges at Lilly's throat. His big meaty hands wrapped around her small throat like a snake to it's prey.
"Look at me when I talk!" Ethan says angrily, with some of his spit landing on Lilly's face.
Lilly struggles to rip his hand off her neck as her lips start to turn a shade of blue. She tears at his hands, his skin slips under her fingernails, as she struggles to breath.
A big grin spreads across his devilish face as he lets go of her neck.
"I'm not going to kill you, but if you upset me one more time, maybe I won't be so generous." Ethan says, before walking out of the kitchen, leaving Lilly gasping for air.
His words ring in her head and suddenly she has more tears to cry.
