FOURTY FIVE

today was graduation.

they were actually graduating today.

joshua looked in the mirror that was in his and ashley's shared room at hayleys. he put on his cap and smiled. he heard the door open and his sister appeared.

"it's time to leave." she smiled before shutting the door.

joshua took a deep breath and walked out of the room, letting the door close behind him.

when he got downstairs he saw hayley's mom taking pictures of hayley. she noticed him and her eyes watered.

"I told myself I wouldn't cry today. get in the picture joshua!" hayley's mom said while wiping her eyes.

she took a couple pictures of him and hayley, and all 3 of them. she sat the film on her table to develop and they walked out the door.

they all got in hayley's mom's car and pulled out of the driveway and began driving to the school.

joshua was staring out the window when he felt his sister lay her head on his shoulder. he smiled and kissed her forehead.

"i'm so proud of you bubby." she admitted.

a smile appeared on his face. "nahhhh." he dragged out shyly.

"you are my favorite person. I don't know anyone whose brother would do as much for them as you do me."

joshua laughed. "most people didn't have an abusive father."

"that's true," ashley agreed. "but you didn't have to take me in. and I love and thank you every day for it."

joshua hugged her. "I would do anything for you ashley. you're my baby sister." he informed her.

instead of responding, ashley nuzzled her head closer into his shoulder.

they stayed like that all the way to the school. when they arrived, ashley and hayley's mom went to go find seats outside, since graduation took place on their football field since it was too hot to be in the gym.

joshua turned towards hayley. "i'm going to go find tyler." he said to her.

hayley nodded her head. "okay! i'll be with the gang if you need me." she said before kissing his cheek and walking towards their friends.

he saw tyler standing next to jenna, and joshua's heart swelled with happiness. the sun was shining right on his face and joshua thought that he looked absolutely ethereal.

tyler looked over from jenna and his eyes lit up. "hi joshua!" he said excitedly as he pulled him for a hug.

"hi bambi, your gown looks so good on you." joshua noted.

he blushed before putting his lips up to joshua's ear. "just wait til you see what i'm wearing later." he whispered seductively, while winking.

joshua looked at tyler with wide eyes. "tyler." he said sternly.

he just looked at jenna innocence eyes. "it's almost time. let's go find our spots. I'll see you after joshua." he smiled before walking away.

"fucking tease." he said to himself before going to find his spot.

joshua was filled with emotion he couldn't even begin to describe. he couldn't believe in a few short minutes, he would be getting his diploma. he honestly didn't think he could do it. senior year he had been struggling to keep his grades up and raise his sister, that he thought he would have to repeat. but, thanks to tyler, he had passed.

he looked over to where tyler was sitting and saw him chatting with the person next to him. he watched as he smiled and tilted his head back when he laughed. joshua was so happy. he was so happy with him and he wanted to feel this feeling forever.

joshua heard the principal talk into the microphone and he knew it was time. time to graduate.

he was next in line to receive his diploma. his body was filled with nerves as he heard his name be called.

"joshua william dun." he heard ashley scream for him as well as tyler and his friends.

he smiled as he walked up and shook his principles hand.

he was handed his diploma. "congratulations, joshua."

"thank you." he whispered before walking off the stage.

joshua listened to the rest of his class get their diplomas and finally it was tyler's turn.

when tyler's name was called, joshua stood up and screamed. he was so unbelievably proud of his boyfriend and the person he was becoming.

finally, graduation was over and joshua went to go find ashley and hayleys mom. when he did, ashley jumped on him.

"JOSHUAAAAA!" she yelled dragging out. joshua laughed and spun her around before setting her down.

"oh yeah!" ashley said. "look what was by my seat!" she said before pulling a daisy out of her pocket.

"well isn't that a coincidence." joshua said smiling before grabbing it from her.

"she was here with you today." she said.

joshua smiled and kissed her forehead. "yes she was."

he suddenly felt two hands hug him from behind and he turned his head and smiled.

"mind if I steal him from the night?" tyler asked them. they all shook their heads and tyler pulled him away from them.

when they got in the car tyler turned towards joshua. "can you believe we are graduated?"

"I know it's crazy." joshua agreed.

tyler started his car and gripped joshua's hand. "I love you."

"I love you too." joshua replied as he pecked tyler's lips.
