Himoko's POV

"W-Why didn't you tell me? Did Pappy know-?" Karlie shushed me, a small chuckle erupting past her lips as she rounded her desk and took a seat, gesturing to one of the two chairs in front of the desk for me to sit on.

"King Bumi did know, of course he did. The reason why I never mentioned to you of my status was because it wasn't important, you were what was important."

"That doesn't make it-"

"Right?" She moved a few books off to the side, letting me get a better view of her, "I may be the daughter of Chief Arnook, but that doesn't mean I will become the next Chieftess." I furrowed my brows, confused. She stared at me with a look I knew far too well, I had missed something that she had said.

"I'm not the heir, love. My little sister is- That was my decision. I didn't want to become the Chieftess, I wanted to delve into my studies of the world and help the future of this one by learning from the old." I slowly nodded in understanding, learning back in my seat as I crossed my arms over my stomach, messing the with fabric of my sleeve.

"... Then why when I was learning about Royal Families of the past and present- I never came across your name?"

"Karlie is just a abbreviation. Karlinesai is my legitimate name, It's odd and unusual spelling is like my mother's name, so when I was your age, I started going by Karlie. In the history books- At least to my knowledge, my real name was left the same. And it was never brought up or alarmed you when you were learning." I leaned back in my seat, a small huff escaping my lips as I mulled over what she just told me. Karlie... Well- Karlinesai, had been lying to me for years about who she was, but also hadn't been lying to me. She just never... Mentioned it to me for whatever reason she thought was right. It still confused me, but that didn't mean I was going to barate her for it. She took care of me when Pappy couldn't, she became like an older sister to me or a wonderful mother-figure in my life, just like how even though Pappy was legally my adopted great-grandfather, he was the father figure in my life after I lost my own. It was for those reasons I never really questioned either of them, because I knew they only want the best for me. They could have easily surrendered me to the Fire Nation to save Omashu if they really wanted to. I could have even been suspected to be the Avatar, I knew Karlie did at first, but Pappy somehow knew it wasn't me, because his old best friend was the Avatar. The cycle would have went to the Water Tribe, not back to the Air Nomads.

"I apologize for not telling you, my main focus was on keeping you safe, teaching you about this world and how to defend yourself and the ones around you for it. It doesn't matter where we come from, it's what we do, our choices, our philosophies, is what makes us who we are." 'Here she goes again... Speaking of wisdom beyond her years, wisdom that generally Pappy would have, the crazy ole' grandfather.' I thought to myself as I nodded to her in understanding. She smiled softly, a small breath of relief escaping her. "I'm glad that you understand somewhat. I will- I will warn you for a moment in time Himoko." I blinked, watching her eyes move to the teenagers behind me, softly gesturing for them to leave so she could speak to me in private. I glanced back, seeing Aang nod and Katara close the door, Sokka ready to speak but was shut up by the closing of the door. He was probably going to question her as to why she wanted to speak to me so privately now.

"My younger sister, Yue. Is a very sweet girl but is sheltered, she doesn't understand what happens beyond these walls. She has never been outside of them, my parents were always adamant about keeping her safe when she was born."
