(The pic is Shiza, Asher and Romaisa in following chappies)
"Ok uh so that's the boys washroom... And over there are the closest stairs to take when your late for business." I say while walking and pointing to the right places. Asher is following me but at a distance. I'm glad for that.
"What do you want to be anyways?" I ask curiously without look back at him as we walk down the long hall.
"Oh uh, I like the business place, so owning like a store or being the head corp of a store something like that."
If he were to be my husband my job would go along perfectly...no Romaisa you can't use him like that. I scold myself. "Really that's cool, I want to start a business too. More towards the graphic and fashion side."
"I personally love fashion, but as you can see I'm a guy and also an Arab. Bad for society I guess." He said with a chuckling sigh.
I chuckled a bit, "you are amazing at it though, the dress you made was absolutely gorgeous!"
"Jazakallah, just a hobby I guess. My mom was a huge fan. Every time I came home from school she would be there just stitching and making new designs. I'd asked if I could help because it just fascinated me but--"
"You don't have to you know," I say cutting him.
He laughed a bit and said, "no it's fine, I'm sure Shiza already told you everything else." I nod sheepishly and look towards the ground. I feel his grin and he begins to talk again.
"Well she'd always say no and send me to my room, so at night I would take some of her threads and fabrics and just play around with them. I must've stabbed my finger a billion times!" He says with a laugh and I laugh along, but inside I do feel bad.
"Do you have a story?"
"A story?" I ask confused.
"Yeah just a bit of life," he says as we round a corner heading towards the entrance, I guess this tours done for now.
"Well you must've noticed the tad limping by now haven't you?" I ask with a smile. He gets a confused look on his face and looks towards my legs which are covers by a skirt.
"Are you hurt? Was it me? I'm sorry I don't know what I did but I'm--"
I cut him off with a laugh,"no no, I thought you would've know I guess not, ok well haha uh I have a prosthetic leg.." I say awkwardly while scratching my head through my hijab. I carefully look at his face, he looks...he looks astonished. Is that good or bad?
After a couple awkward seconds he says, "that. Is. So. Cool. Can I see it?? Wait uh never mind sorry uh hah uh.."
I chuckle and take my shoe off, not raising my skirt I show him my 'cool' foot.
He looks at it wide eyed before grinning, "sorry abouth my enthusiasm, I've just never seen something like this before, you walk so normally, dosnt it hurt when you walk?"
I give a small smile before lowering my gaze which I guess I had forgotten. Astaghfirullah. "Nope, normal as normal."
"Uh aren't you even a bit freaked out?" I ask cautiously.
He gives me a confused look before blushing an lowering his gaze, "uh should I be?""No it's just that a lot of the men that my mom had choosen for me to marry ran away with their mothers. So I thought you would be gone by now."
"Those guys are idiots. Nobody's perfect, everyone's beautiful in their own way." He says and I cautiously give him a small smile before looking away. "I should show you the auditorium. Come on." He nods and follows me, but I suddenly stop with my eyes wide causing Asher to tumble slightly but regain himself. Right in front of us is the janitor..the worst janitor..the scariest janitor..and the meanest. I really wanted to avoid him for this tour but ya Allah.
"What are you two kids doing here, universities closed at this time!" He says with that scary gruff voice of his. His traditional janitors outfit is on with those little red stains which everyone's suspects is his victims blood. I shouldn't be judging a poor man but he sure is scary. I mean he could at least try to be nice.
"Well uh sir this lady was actually giving me a tour, since I'm new here." Asher says after I keep quiet. The janitor suddenly grinned and my face morphed into confusion. How the heck is he smiling? He's never smiled at me like that!
"Thank you young man for giving me a straight answer." He grins again and walks away slowly. Me and Asher look at him until he passes around the corner out of sight.
"How did you do that?" I ask confused and surprised.
"Do what?"
"That! The getting him to smile and like not be so scary!"
"I dunno," he says with a shrug and I roll my eyes with a
smile. Guess he just radiates happiness."Anyways ok here is the auditorium, there's usually like charities and that kind of stuff held here. On Friday there will be a muslim fashion show that just showcases designs and such, no models or anything, just a bit of a showcase. You won't believe how hard it was to produce and keep things organized."
"Can I come?" He says expectantly.
"Uh sure but uh bring Shiza too cuz uh yeah," I say awkwardly.
He grins and nods quickly. We make our way towards the entrance and are soon at the parking lot. I spot Shiza out beside my car and we start walking towards her.
"Tour all done?" She asks and we both nod not looking at each other. Shiza randomly smiles and goes to sit in her car with Asher following her. He gives me a quick Salaam and I reply slowly. Still in haze, as to why he wasn't awkward after the whole leg thing. It's like..he's the man of my dreams.. But that'll never happen of course. Right?
