Asher's pov:

"Ok I think you're all set to go Mr. Awad, make sure to take the pain relievers every night." The doctor says as he opens the door for me. I nod and smile saying a thank you.

I had knocked my elbow off of the kitchen counter as I tried to reach for the Nutella, I couldn't move it so Shiza rolled her eyes at me and told me to go to the doctors.

Heading out to the waiting room, I grab my bag with my good hand and smile at the lady behind the desk as she wishes me a good day. Heading out, I make my way to the pharmacy to grab my medicine. Quickly taking care of all that business, I hold the bottled pins in my hand as the pharmacist takes the prescription label. It took him a while to read the writing, I guess those sterotypes are right about the doctors.

I open the door not noticing where I'm going, I bump into a man with a black hoodie on. "Sorry didn't see ya there." I say politely as I move out of the way. I can't see his face but it seems like he's observing me. He finally gives me a nod before going into the pharmacy. Weird people these days eh?

I cross the parking lot, heading towards my car. This was a good day. Especially the talk with Romaisa's dad. He sure gave me some confidence into askin-- my thoughts are cut off as my foot slips over a tiny rock. Balancing myself back up right I breathe in a few times to calm my racing heart. That was a close one.

Shaking my head I throw the medicine and my bag into the passenger seat before getting in. I start driving home, the night is cool and fresh with the hint of winter coming soon. The clouds of air coming from my mouth vanish as I crank the heater up.

A car zooms pass me just as I'm about to turn, "khara, why you gotta go so fast huh?" I say talking to myself. I suck on my lip, my eyes widening as I see two police cars going straight right past me and after the car. Well alrighty then.

Finally arriving home I grab my things and tighten my jacket, opening the front door, I'm welcomed with the smell of warmth and comfort. I take my boots off and lay them on the mat, my coat is next, up onto the rack. Heading towards the kitchen I find Aunty in there. "Asalam alaikum Aunty," I say grabbing a glass from the cabinet.

She turns around with a smile and I bend down as she kisses my forehead. "Walaikum asalam, I think we're done with this Aunty stage, start calling me umi." She says patting my cheek, I smile back and say, "sure thing.

She goes back to her cooking and I fill up my glass with water. I always hated pills. I'm scared of choking myself. Making sure aunti- umi's not looking I do some manly grunts and pat my chest. You can do this Asher. Placing the pill in my mouth I quickly gulp the water down after it and wait for the feeling of it out of my throat.

Grinning, I high five myself and put the glass into the sink. "No! Wash it!" Umi says walking out of the kitchen. I chuckle a bit before quickly washing it and placing it onto the rack. I sure love this family. The last Aunty I was with was always not home, her son socialized a bit with me but not too much. He recently got married and I have to admit, she wasn't that pretty. They didn't need to worry about me falling for her. But in her case....who can't resist these good looks.

Smirking to myself I head out of the kitchen, "oww ! Stupid stool. Your such a bully to my toe." I grumble as I rub the recently hit toe. Why the fudge sticks did I not see that there?

Running up the stairs I knock onto Shizas door, and wait for her to answer. "Hold on!" She screams from inside, I lean myself up against the wall beside her door. There is a picture of us three that was recently taken at Walmart, hanging across from me.

"Ok so yeah?" Shiza says sticking her head out the door, wearing a loose scarf around her neck that's shows some skin that I don't think she's aware of, but she's practically my sister. I think we're on the safe side.

"I did it." I say with a grin growing onto my face. Her eyes widen as she beckons me into her room. I follow and sit onto her spiny chair, the same one Romaisa say on the other day. The thought makes me blush like a school boy and I quickly vanish it out.

"You're finally getting a llama?" She says sitting Indian style onto her bed. I roll my eyes and laugh a bit.

"No Shiza, I did it , I finally did it. And he was fine with us coming over!" I say my confidence raising.

She grins and squeals, "yes, yes, yes!! Finally! I knew my speech knocked some sense into ya! Have you told umi yet?" She asks as her eyes gleam with happiness. I shake my head.

"Well let's go then! What are you waiting for?" She says getting up.

I look down at the carpet, "I don't know though. You're not even completely sure if this can happen and I don't wanna ruin anything else an--"

She glares at me crossing her arms, "no, stop it with the ands. I'm completely sure, now let's go."

Sighing I get up and follow her to I guess to her mothers room. Even though I'm calling her umi, I'm still not good with calling her exactly my or our mother.

Shiza knocks on the door and I stand a bit back with my hands in my pocket. What if this is not a good idea? But before I can say anything, umi opens the door and ushers us in still reciting her suraah from the Quran. Oh that's bad, we interrupted her Quran reading time.

She finished and says, "sadakallah hul azeem." (correct me if I wrote that wrong) she turns to us with a smile as she sits onto her red sofa, I take the bed as Shiza randomly plops herself down onto the ground.

"This looks weirdly serious, do you guys need to tell me something?" Shiza begins to open her mouth, but before she can utter a word out umi suddenly gasps and says, "please don't tell me you two want to be together!"

It takes a few seconds for us to the register what she said and once we do, Shiza and I both start yelling, "Nooo eww Amma! Never, no, not at all!" She says at the same time I say, "No no no umi! Ugh no!"

Umi leans back as we both scream at the same time, "ya Allah, that almost gave me a heart attack. I'm sorry for even asking!" She says puting a hand to her chest.

Shiza rolls her yes as I smile, "it's not us that want to marry each other mama... It's Asher." Shiza says getting striaght to the point.

Umi's eyes widen as she looks over at me. "Is this true Asher, you're really ready, and want to marry?"

I nod slowly not looking up at her, ya Allah please make this easier. "Well that's great son. Even though I am sad that you're growing up so fast. And you only came to us about a month ago! That's not fair at all."

"I don't even know if she'll say yes, umi. Plus if I do get married to her inshallah, of course I'll visit. You guys have been a family to me more than my real and my other two families," I say trying to lighten her up. Why is this going so fast?

"Yes you better, now tell me beta (another word for son) who is this lucky girl?" She says with somewhat of a knowing smile.

I tinge a bit with redness before saying, "Khadijah."

The end!

JUST KIDDING LOOLLLLL IM SORRY IM SORRY I DONT EVEN KNOW WHO KHADIJAH IS!!! OK OK HERE IS THE REAL THING. PLEASE DONT HURT MY FOOD OR UNICORNS!!

I tinge a bit with redness before saying, "Romaisa." I carefully look up studying umi's expression, I already know Shizas beaming with happiness. Umi looks as if she couldn't get any prouder. I grin as she comes and hugs me saying mashallah over and over and over.

Well I finally let it out. I could actually have a chance with the girl that thought I was a chip stealing robber, the girl the grinned whenever I fell, and the girl that I could never ever take my eyes off of. Even with her slight imperfections, she is still the angel that casts a golden light of happiness across my eyes.
