"Look at me." she commanded, forcing green eyes to meet brown ones. She stared at me in contemplation from across the room, raising a brow and pushing her tongue to the inside of her cheek.
I felt awkward under her gaze, attempting to shift around on the bed to feel looser.
"Hm." she hummed before turning around again, rummaging for more supplies.
We hadn't been talking much, and quite frankly it was making me uncomfortable. Yet all I had on my mind was confrontation, asking her about her strange behaviour. I shrugged my shoulders, deciding to communicate with her and giving in to my curiosity, I'd ask her sooner or later anyways.
"So why are you so bossy?" I inquired. She didn't pause her actions, instead continuing and maintaining the silence for a few seconds.
"I wouldn't say I am bossy, necessarily." she shrugged, "Because if you didn't listen to me, that'd be okay. I wouldn't mind. I'm just blunt and like getting to the point." she continued. I took some time to comprehend her answer, getting more hints of her character.
"So..." I spoke slowly, still processing, "So you... don't enjoy small talk I presume?"
"No, not at all." she replied matter-of-factly.
"Me too. I think it's pointless and I'd much rather learn about a person then and there." I agreed, entirely happy to meet someone who also didn't enjoy small talk, which felt so normalised and impolite to not engage in.
"Yeah." she responded, a hint of understanding in her tone. "Progress is more important to me. Otherwise I don't waste my time talking to people who I know I can't progress with."
I couldn't agree more. It's one of the reasons I don't speak to very many people, and therefore don't have many friends. It feels almost impossible to find people who want to know me on a deeper level. I don't care to know how someone's day is going when I know it'll always be 'good' or 'fine'.
"Maybe we could skip the small talk between us." I suggested, slightly wincing at how straightforward it came across. Was that too much?
"Sounds good." she replied briefly. Huh, easier than I thought. Thank goodness.
She came back into the room, holding a small bag that cluttered when she walked. Raven walked over to me, setting the bag beside me on the bed.
"So, what do you want to talk about?" she asked, towering over me and leaning down to stare deeper into my eyes.
"Uh..." I let out a tiny gulp, suddenly nervous by the intense eye contact. "How about... how was your day?" I almost spat out, not thinking for a second about my words. Oh how much of an idiot I felt.
She chuckled lowly, letting out a beautiful sound.
"I thought we were skipping that?" she smirked, light shining in her dark eyes.
"Oh oh! Right! Um." I sputtered, immediately breaking eye contact with her to regain my composure. From my peripheral I could see her raised brow, and I scolded myself internally for making a fool out of myself.
