"Did you photoshop this?" Lainey asked.
"Yes, I combined our pictures together and put a BFF's thing. It's a little silly, but I think it suits us," Nathan answered.
"I want to cut all contact with everyone, but I'll have this. It's special to me," Lainey said. She walked onto the shuttle to Mars with second thoughts fresh in her mind. She ascended to Mars. When she'd gotten onto the spaceport, she breathed in the fresh air of a new start. Conflict gripped Lainey. A new life. She breathed in and out.
She pulled the locket of the combined pictures out of her pocket. Nathan. She needed him. A new life. Her eyes looked up. She was on the red planet, and nothing but if the fight came to her would change that. Lainey would be on this red planet the rest of her life, she told herself. Her rider nature told her to get back on the shuttle to get back to Earth, but she tossed that suggestion aside. She wasn't going back unless the fight came to Mars. No. She was staying on Mars forever. No fight would come to Mars. Would it? Coming to Mars had cost her everything.
