"You're refusing?"
"Yes, are you deaf?" I retorted to the small group of men in black suits that pestered me at my bedside. My nose was buried in a Vogue Korea magazine, purposefully keeping the pages high to cover my eyes.
"I want no involvement in the trial. You have all the evidence you need and a written letter from me explaining all that happened, now leave me alone."
"But Miss—"
I slapped my magazine onto my duvet covered lap, "I've said all I needed to say and if your judge has a problem you can tell him that if he truly needs to hear what I have to say I will do so in private but, I am not showing my face in front of them. Now, if I need to pay the nurses to drag you all out by your ears, so help me god I will do so in seconds."
I lifted the magazine back up to my face and returned my attention to the article inside.
The men hung around for a few moments, internal conflict shown in their awkward shuffling. Two out of three men left, leaving one man standing behind. "I..." He paused and then continued, "we will let you know by email if the judge wishes to speak to you," his voice held a tone of defeat.
When the shuffling of his feet diminished and the door to my hospital room finally shut, I heaved out a breath and rested the magazine on my lap, a dull ache spreading across my left arm from the exertion. With a quiet groan I fell back against the pile of pillows that covered the headboard, my head bumping against the thick metal frame.
"Where do I even start to fix this mess," I shut my eyes and let out a heavy sigh, hearing my heart monitor steadily beep. I sat up and ruffled my matted hair, "I need to get out of here."
I peered down at the iv drip on my right arm and carefully peeled the tape off, cringing at the thought of having to pull the needle out. With quick shudder I began to pull the thin tube, looking away as the long needle slid out of my forearm, leaving a pinkish bruise where it once pierced the skin.
I began to make a mental checklist, "first I need to get home and find a lawyer that specialises in big companies..." I paused and rubbed where the bruise began to grow, "that way once Yoshio hopefully gets convicted it's down to the three brothers because he has no say in the matter."
I stretched and tugged down the hospital gown I wore, "the company is dependent upon him so it would cause the company to resign unless a new CEO would take over."
Furrowing my eyebrows I rubbed my temples, "that sounds wrong but would that secure Kyouya's position?" I looked out the window of my room and watched as the large oak tree swayed in the wind, "my involvement seems wrong but me being there would higher his chance of him getting the position of CEO."
Two birds fluttered around the tree before diving into a whole in the trunk, "gotta call Kyo," I patted around me and felt the warm device under my pillow. "There's my phone," I muttered, unlocking the device with my fingerprint.
I scrolled through the contacts, finding Kyouya's within a few scrolls. I pressed call and the dial tone rang loudly in the otherwise deadly silent room.
"What are you planning?" Kyouya groaned into the phone instead of greeting me as usual.
I smiled, "I need the location of the meeting. I'm getting a lawyer and all the books I have in my library that cover a transition of a new CEO. I heard it can be difficult especially when the original CEO has no say in the matter."
Kyouya's chuckle rang through the receiver, "Aki, you don't need to. Maria already dealt with it and the position is going to me once my father gets convicted. It's not even a question of will he, it's more as if the entire family is wondering when."
