Masayoshi Shido's Palace is a very special one. Not only is it the longest Palace in the game, but the process of getting to the treasure is actually really fun (spare that stupid mouse puzzle). I loved how in this final palace, each of the Phantom Thieves got a chance to shine in a specific cutscene, as they went around and defeated Shido's confidants in their cognitive form. Shido's Palace is pretty much the same in terms of it's puzzles and enemies, but it's in the boss fights and story events that change it. In the original game, Shido's Palace had 5 characters you had to fight for a letter of introduction. In this game, I've increased that to 8, technically 9, to give our new party members a chance to shine. So, long story short, when the Phantom Thieves hear about the letters, they are told there are 7 people who carry them. A Politician, a Former Noble, A TV Station President, an IT Company president and a Cleaner are the 5 in the original game, but the new ones are a Board Game Advisor, an Olympic Awarder and a Police Higher up. With this information, the Phantom's prepare to siege Shido's Palace.

Queen and Skull vs Politician Ooe

Once recovering a membership pass from the lost and found, the Phantom Thieves seek out the politician in the ships restaurant. Ryuji becomes entranced by the by the high quality and luxurious appearance of the restaurant, as well as the food. Yusuke immediately points out the table where the politician will sit and Makoto proposes they sit at the table next to it and wait for him. She offers to go and sit there on her own, worried that if all 13 of them go together, they'll become guarded. However, Haru makes the point that it would also be suspicious if Makoto sat there by herself, so Joker gets the option to volunteer Ryuji, Yusuke or himself, but ultimately, Ryuji volunteers to go and sit with her. Yuuki points out the only reason Ryuji's so eager is because he wants to order at the restaurant, and in typical Skull fashion, Ryuji affirms what he's saying. Makoto sighs and allows Ryuji to go and sit with her at the table.

Makoto calls the waiter over and orders a meal while they wait, reminding Ryuji they can't get full off of food in a palace. As he and Makoto discuss the people present in the dining hall and how Shido associates with them, the powerful politician, Mr Ooe, comes up to them and asks who gave them permission to sit at their table. He tells them that he wishes to dine leisurely and that children like them who are plainly hungry should leave at once. Ryuji begins to threaten the guy, but Makoto calms him down. She apologises to the Politician and requests he give them a letter of introduction to Shido. Makoto flatters Ooe and Shido and while he recognises her silver tongue, he remains impressed. He then reveals to Makoto and Ryuji that Kobayakawa was in on Shido's plan, but when his contact was cut with the SIU Director, he got his heart stolen by the Phantom Thieves. Ooe begins to talk to Makoto about the mental shutdowns, and how Kobayakawa was originally going to experience one before his Palace crumbled. Makoto asks the Politician if he asked Shido to trigger a mental shutdown in certain individuals, and he confirms this. Makoto believes it may have been someone of great importance, but Ooe reveals that the named target was the driver of the subway accident that happened the spring that Ren arrived in Tokyo, for the sake of removing a president of a transport company and a diplomat who sided with the current government. From hearing this, Makoto informs Ooe that she could pass on the information to Sae, explaining how she's a prosecutor. This is a light threat, as Sae is listening to the conversation over Futaba's radio, but can't help but grin. Recognising the threat, Ooe asks Makoto and Ryuji who they are. Makoto continues to demand the letter of introduction, but when Ooe refuses to give her one, Ryuji smirks as now he can use brute force to take it! Makoto calls the rest of the Phantom's over and Politician Ooe transforms into Yamata-no-Orochi and his miniboss begins
