You watched as Bucky stood there motionless, looking out the window with no emotion. His body looked like it held the weight of the world, hunched over like he was trying to disappear into the darkness of the surroundings.
You knew what was wrong, but it hurt you that you couldn't fix what was bothering him.

You didn't want to see him in pain any longer.

Your shoes made no noise as you slowly made your way across the floor, trying to come up with something to say to him.
As you arrived next to him, he took in your presence but made no attempt to look or talk to you.
Your hand slowly made his way to touch his shoulder and when your hand made contact with him, his eyes made contact with yours.
The sadness that over filled his eyes wouldn't really be visible to anyone that didn't know him like you did. It would only be seen as his normal demeanor.
But you knew. You knew what his pain felt like. You knew that even if it wasn't a physical pain, it hurt just as much and maybe even more. This pain couldn't be fixed with surgery or medicine. It took time.

Knowing the pain that he was going through almost made you hug him, but you knew that he didn't want pity from you.

"He said he was going to be with me till the end of the line."
His voice didn't crack when he said this, nor was there any anger behind his words.
But his eyes held a million words.
He was glad his best friend got to have the ending that he always wanted, but because of that he had lost him all over again.

Your hand fell away from his shoulder and in replacement, your head leaned into his body.
"I know, Buck. I don't want to give you any false promises, all I want to tell you is that I may never be what Steve was to you, but I will try to be there for you as you try to adjust to this new life. I may not be Steve, but I can try to be there for you in ways that he can't for you anymore. I'm here for you."

Bucky's head turned towards the window and silence overtook you again. But after a minute of silence his head moved so it was now laying on top of yours.
That was all you needed to know he was going to be okay.
