~Please remember I'm not that good at writing fantasy, but I promise I'll do my best!~

I finally emerged from my classroom, slamming the door shut behind me.

My teacher had kept me late to discuss a low grade on a quiz, which only managed to annoy me.

All I really cared about was getting to my friends, the few of them I had. I'm not exactly the most popular girl, but the friends I DO have are extremely caring and loyal.

They're like my family, really. Especially my friend Jeremy, though he prefers the nickname Jinxx.

I don't consider him my friend; I consider him my brother.

I walked into the cafeteria and spotted them instantly. Their backs were all to me, as they headed toward our spot.

I scurried behind them just as I heard our friend Andy ask if they knew where I was.

"Yeah, Sierene is never late." our friend Ashley added. Ashley is actually a guy. "Maybe she got held up by a teacher?" my friend Jake wondered.

"That's all I can think of." our friend Christian, who goes by CC, added. "Who cares?" Jinxx sighed, and I raised an eyebrow.

"What do you mean?" Andy asked, sounding flabbergasted. "Sierene's so fucking needy and clingy, I think we deserve a break from her." Jinxx spat at him.

I gasped at his words as tears immediately began to fall, and they all spun around. "Sierene!" Jinxx exclaimed, "I, I didn't kn-"

I didn't let him finish. I just ran. Out of the cafeteria, out of the school. I ran down to the beach, since our school overlooked it.

My parents have always warned me to stay away from the sea, though they never gave a reason why.

But right now, I didn't care. I ran across the sand, throwing my backpack down as I reached the water.

"Sierene!!!" I heard Jinxx yell from far behind. I turned around to see him running to me, and I shook my head sadly before diving into the waves.

I stayed under the waves for about ten seconds before I felt something was wrong.

There was a peculiar feeling in my legs; they were tingling, as though they had fallen asleep.

I finally resurfaced, opening my eyes and looking down at my legs. I rubbed my eyes in disbelief.

What I was seeing just couldn't be real, it couldn't be!

My legs were gone, replaced by a large, dark purple mermaid tail. "Sierene!" Jinxx cried, standing at the edge of the water.

I shook my head at him, a piece of my now bright red hair falling in front of my face.

I dove underneath the waves again, and I didn't resurface for over two years.

I had found an entire underwater city, full of merpeople. It was completely enchanting, and I lost track of time.

Soon enough, I didn't even remember why I had jumped into the ocean in the first place.

One day, I felt as though the land were calling me, as though I needed.to resurface.

I made my way up curiously, finding myself at the beach where I had last stood on land.

There was a man sitting on the rocks, who looked about my age. He had black, shaggy hair just past his shoulders, his face caked in white makeup with black designs on it.

I swam a bit closer, remembering to stay hidden, and noticed he was playing a violin.

I felt drawn to him, as though he was someone I used to know. I swam even closer, till I was only a few strokes away from him.

The man was crying as he played, looking out into the ocean. The song ended, and he started a new one, one I recognized.

It was Jinxx, playing a song he used to play for me often. "Jinxx?" I whispered in awe.

He jumped in surprise, and fell off the rocks into the water. "Jinxx!" I screamed, pulling him up above the waves.

He spat out water, coughing, and pulled away. "Thank y-" he stopped when he saw my face.

"Sierene?" he asked, his eyes filling with tears. I nodded as my eyes did the same. "It's me, Jinxx." I whispered.

"You're, you're a..." he murmured, looking down at my fins. "Mermaid." I chuckled softly, finishing his sentence.

"What were you doing here?" I asked him. He bit his lip before answering, "Thinking about you.

"I never stopped thinking about you, after you disappeared. What I said that day, Sierene you have to believe me when I say I am so, so sorry."

Tears started to spill down his cheeks, so I wiped them away as he fought to stay afloat.

I pulled him back to the rocks so he could balance on them, which he appeared grateful for.

"I forgive you, Jinxx." I told him, placing my hand gently on the side of his face.

He pulled me in to kiss me, but I titled my head down. "I can't let you do that," I said sadly, "If you kiss me, you'll turn."

"I don't care, Sierene." he said firmly, "I lost you once, I will not lose you again. I love you."

I looked up at him, and could tell he meant it. "I, I love you too..." I said quietly with a small smile.

This time, I let him kiss me. Within seconds, he had changed, and we were diving beneath the waves.
