"Hey Dawson, come over here!" Josh called. I sighed, excusing myself from the people I was talking to as I made my way to my boyfriend.
I love him dearly, but we go out every night, and he's always having me meet new people.
While yes, I do sometimes enjoy being a social butterfly, it would be really nice to just have a night in.
Even still, Josh did save me from my last breakup. My exboyfriend, Alex, and I, fell apart completely.
We just lost our spark, our ability to connect. Pretty soon I lost feeling for him altogether, so I broke up with him.
As soon as I was in Josh's reach, he pulled me to him quickly and tightly, nearly causing me to spill my drink.
"Eric, Phillip, this is my girl Dawson." Josh announced smugly. Both men eyed me up and down, checking me out.
I don't see what's so special. I have long brown hair, green eyes, and I'm short.
"Hey there cutie." one of them said, winking. I could smell the alcohol on his breath so strong it almost gagged me.
"She's a real looker, huh?" Josh laughed.
Of course that's why he called me over.
He loves being able to tell people how beautiful he thinks I am, and how glad he is that I'm his.
It's so sweet of him.
I took a sip of my drink, only to find it was almost empty. Pouting, I told Josh I would be back, and I headed over to the bar.
As I was waiting, a familiar voice said, "Dawson?" I turned towards the sound, only to see Alex staring at me in awe.
I still remembered his every feature. His brown hair, charming smile, his mischievous brown eyes.
"A-Alex. Hi." I stammered, then mentally cursed myself, "How have you been?" He shrugged, looking down as he scratched the back of his hand.
"I'm alright, I guess." Alex muttered, "Just getting through each and every day." I felt bad that there was still so much pain and sadness in his voice.
It reminded me of the last day I saw him, when we broke up.
*Flashback*
"Who ya talking to?" Alex asked, attempting to make conversation as he wrapped his arms around my waist.
I leaned away some as I simply replied, "A friend?" He sighed, resting his chin on my shoulder and pecking my cheek with a kiss.
I continued texting till I just felt uncomfortable. "Alex, I can't do this." I confessed, pulling away and shoving my phone into my pocket.
"Do what?" Alex questioned, his voice riddled with concern. "Us, this relationship!" I exclaimed.
"It's just, it's dead, Alex! We're dead. We've been dead for a while now. There's nothing left to hold on to."
"What, what are you saying?" Alex whimpered, tears rimming his eyes. "I'm saying we're over."
*End Flashback*
"That's good." I tried to smile, but it was clear he knew I had difficulty with it. "Yeah... What about you and Josh?" Alex asked.
"Where'd you hear about us?" I questioned. "I asked Lacey how you were doing a few months ago, she told me." he explained.
I chuckled sadly, shaking my head. "You could've called." My heart broke more when he said he didn't think I would answer.
I was handed my drink, so I quickly took a sip so I could buy time to think of what else to say.
