I overthink every word I speak
To the point where I'd rather not speak at all
So please don't take my quiet nods or subtle hums as an insult
Because the reality of it is
My brain has placed a cold, stiff hand over my mouth in an attempt to protect me
From what, I'm not sure
But it's been that way for as long as I can rememberMy silence is not disinterest
It is simply a defense mechanism I've built against myself
