I really really hope that Bumbleby does not become canon. I don't hate Bumbleby but I also don't ship it.
It just seems wrong for it to become canon because it would affect the team but most importantly Weiss. Out of all the members in the team Yang is least closest to Weiss. I know that volume 5 brought them closer together but canon Bumbleby just screws Weiss over.
The whole team dynamic would be off because it would imply that Yang would obviously always care for Ruby and Blake more than she would care for Weiss. That's only because Rooster Teeth failed to develop the friendship between Yang and Weiss late into the series.
The same can be said with White Rose. In that case Blake would be the one to get screwed over in favor of Yang and Weiss.
The only way for things to work out so that no member of team rwby would ever have to be less cared about would be to have other ships become canon.
Freezerburn - No one would be less cared about because Ruby and Yang will always have their sisterly bond, Blake would still remain to be Yang's closest friend, and she'd obviously be dating Weiss. No member of team rwby would have to be less significant to the team.
Ladybug - Same sisterly bond with Yang, close friendships with Weiss (for Ruby) and Blake (for Yang), and Blake would be Ruby's significant other in this scenario. Except this ship is unlikely because of two reasons. 1. Rooster Teeth never really developed the closeness of Blake and Ruby, so I doubt they would ever have romantic feelings for each other. 2. Blake has too many potential love intrests and at this point she doesn't need any more.
Checkmate - Blake would still have her close friendship with Yang as Weiss would with Ruby and Blake would be dating Weiss in this scenario. Though what I said with Ladybug could be applied with Checkmate as well since there is no development in the friendship with Weiss and Blake.
With that analysis, it would only make sense for Freezerburn to become canon because that would be the only scenario in which no member of the team is just thrown off to the side.
I personally love Freezerburn but Rooster Teeth wouldn't be having this shipping problem had they just developed the friendships between the girls properly. Instead of just focusing on White Rose and Bumbleby.
