*HARLEY'S POV*
Oh God my head hurts.
What's that light?
Why...can't I move?
I open my eyes slowly, the blue sky and sun blaring down on me. It stings my eyes as I open them wide, gradually regaining the ability to move my body. I stand up carefully and I wobble a few times before I become stable.
A wheat field?
I'm standing in the middle of a wheat field. I can see a distant line of trees on the horizon. And I'm still in the Iron Man suit. I look down at my hands.
Is this real?
"This isn't real," I whisper, and it seems muted. It seems like it's in my ears. A voice inside my head.
(A/N Divergent anyone?)
"Harley," I whip around. A warped voice called out my name.
What's going on?
"Harl-Harley-" The warped voice continued speaking, though I saw no one around me. It sounded almost as though the voice was underwater, screaming but I couldn't make it out clearly. It continued saying my name, gradually forming into a regular voice.
The voice of Peter Parker.
"Harley!" He screamed. I ran around frantically trying to find him but I couldn't. He's not here.
"Peter!" I yelled. I heard the echo of my voice, but that's all. "Where are you?!"
"Harley!" The voice got louder and louder and more high pitched each time it called out to me until it sounded like a screaming teapot on the stove in my ears. I covered my ears with my hands tightly and fell to the ground, waiting for everything to stop.
I saw my whole life flash before my eyes: running around in the summer as a little kid while my mom was sitting on the front porch. Breaking my arm after falling off the monkey bars at the playground and getting a purple cast. Tony Stark accidentally ending up at my house and automatically becoming the dad I never had. Riley being born and me promising her that I would be the best big brother ever. Me realizing I'm gay. Me telling my mom I'm gay 3 years later. Falling asleep with Riley in my arms after reading to her when she was still little.
Meeting Peter.
Making things in Tony's lab.
Breaking up with Peter.
Graduating high school.
Kissing Peter...
I feel like the ground is caving in and I keep my eyes shut tight.
Suddenly, everything is quiet. I hear birds calling in the distance and the peaceful chirps of insects in the tall grass.
I take my hands off my head slowly and see that they are covered in blood. I gasped and started shaking them, attempting to shake the blood off. I felt tears in my eyes.
What the fuck is going on?
Where's Peter? Is he here?
I felt a tap on my shoulder and screamed, jumping around to see who it was.
Doctor Strange?!
"Hey," he said casually. "Sorry, that sometimes happens. It's part of the process." He says, motioning to my bloody hands. I look back, awestruck and speechless. "Doc-Doctor Strange?"
"Yeah?" He said seriously. I wiped my eyes furiously and then looked back at him. He just stared at me. "Can you tell me what the hell is going on?"
