a/n: i would recommend listening to grow as we go by ben platt as you read this. also some backstory: evan and jared are fighting. evan doesn't like jared's friends. this is what happens after the big fight. thank you.
"Ev?"
Jared opens the door to find Evan, sobbing uncontrollably on his bed.
"Go away, Jared." Evan says. "I don't want to talk to anyone right now."
"Are you sure, Acorn?" Jared replies, his breathing speeding up.
"Yes, I'm fucking sure! Now leave me alone!"
Jared nods, tears welling up in his eyes, and leaves Evan alone.
The door closes with a click.
Evan yells, regretting sending Jared away. He needs someone to talk to.
****
Jared hears Evan, but thinks nothing of it. He walks across the landing, tears silently streaming down his face.
Jared spots a picture of Evan at a wedding, in a suit, he looks so happy. He always liked to imagine it as their wedding.
****
Evan slowly sits up, thinking about all the memories they have together.
His light blue walls are covered in Polariods of him and Jared, drawings and poems Jared sent him and posters of his favourite band.
He screams and starts ripping everything down.
Everything lies on the floor, ripped and forgotten.
****
Jared wipes his eyes, and keeps walking.
He won't cry. Jared Kleinman doesn't cry.
He'll never be able to help Evan if he can't help himself.
He stops at the top and the stairs and looks back at Evan's bedroom door.
****
Evan stands, staring at his empty wall, breathing heavily.
He looks around at the floor.
He sees a picture that makes his heart skip a beat.
Jared in the local park, sitting on a swing, with a flower behind his ear, smiling widely.
He picks it up and feels the tears coming back.
That was only a week or so ago, and it was the last time he saw Jared smile before the fight.
Evan's breathing speeds up and he starts crying again.
****
Jared hears Evan crying, and nearly falls down the stairs.
He goes to run to help him, but remembers that they're fighting and runs downstairs.
Heidi stands there, looking at Jared with sorrow in her eyes.
"He's still upset?" She asks, her voice full of pity.
Jared nods and she runs forward and hugs him.
He starts crying again, shaking.
"I just don't know what to do, Mrs. Hansen." Jared cried.
"Evan just needs some time, and then he needs you to help him. Be understanding, and be loving like you always are."
Jared pulls away from the hug and goes to go upstairs.
He sees a picture of them when they were little, careless and happy. He wants that back.
****
Evan cries, holding the photo in his hands.
He hears footsteps outside and drops it.
Jared opens the door.
"I'm so sorry."
Evan rushes forward and kisses Jared.
Jared cries more, and kisses back.
"I'm so, so, so sorry, Evan. I never meant to get so angry, it all just came out-"
"It's f-fine. I d-don't mind, honestly. A-and I-I'm the one who sh-should be, I'm the one who should be sorry, I s-started the a-argument."
Evan looks down in shame.
"We'll both apologize, and leave it there. No-one's perfect. I love you, Mark Evan Hansen. Let's take it slow, and grow as we go."
