jeremy and evan being brothers

storge: familial love

evan sits in his room, torn up paper thrown around, on the verge of tears. he's muttering under his breath and tapping his foot, trying to expel his sudden depressive mood. he's looking at the ground, but he doesn't have enough energy to move his head.

theres a knock at the door and evan gasps. the door creaks open and a wavy light brown head of hair sticks out from behind it.

"ev, heidi says dinners ready!" jeremy shouts, before realizing evan on the bed and rushing over.

he places a hand cautiously on evan's back and rubs his back. a tear falls onto his jeans, but he ignores it and continues his attempt to calm evan down.

"can you tell me what's up, ev?" jeremy whispers, not wanting to be too invasive. evan nods and slowly raises his head.

"i don't really know what's wrong, but i didn't have enough energy to move. i just felt like there was no point. what's the point in moving if there's no difference it'll make to me or anyone else?" evan starts, but he stops himself. "sorry, i'm ranting, i'll stop talking. i talk too much anyway."

"who told you that? that you talk too much?" jeremy asks accusingly.

evan shakes his head.

"if i told you, you wouldn't believe me." evan whispers.

"try me. i would believe anything now, ev." jeremy replies almost inaudibly.

"it's, um, connor. he's been putting me down lots recently." evan says.

"connor? i cant say im surprised, but i know you are."

evan nods and sighs. he leans his head on jeremy's shoulder and closes his eyes, crying silently. jeremy moves his arm to wrap it around evan's back. they sit like that for a while, jeremy rubbing evan's shoulder while he sobs quietly.

"it hasn't got any worse than just putting you down, has it?" jeremy questions suddenly. "because im not afraid to smack a bitch."

"no, jeremy, it's fine. and im breaking up with him tomorrow." evan sobs.

jeremy smiles and let's go of evan.

"besides, i think i like someone else anyway." evan says confidently.

jeremy raises an eyebrow and moves his hands as if putting glasses on. evan nods solemnly.

"well, are you all cheered up now? because dinner was ready like 10 minutes ago." jeremy stands up and wipes his (now sweaty) hands on his jeans.

"why did you even try to cheer me up? i know you've never appreciated having another family in the house." evan asks shyly, standing up next to jeremy.

"you're my brother, evan! i-i love you, even if it doesn't seem like it." jeremy says, voice wavering.

evan rushes forward and hugs jeremy tightly.

"i love you too!" evan shouts. "now lets go get some dinner!"
