Esmay p.o.v.
Rose and I are on the beach, looking around us to see where to start. I have to admit that I feel bad doing it. If I lose, I die, but if I win, that proves she was innocent this whole time. "So, what are we supposed to do now?" I ask her, and look to my left. "Rose?" I look at her, bloodshot eyes. She's petrified. Maybe we went too hard on her at the ceremony. "Don't know, don't care..." She says quietly. I don't get it, why is she quitting now? How hard can a trial be? "Rose! You were able to put the pieces together last time. Why not now?" I ask, and I wave right across her face to get her attention, but she's still staring. "Why are you asking me? You hate me just like everyone else here." Rose says, trying not to cry. I don't hate her, I just don't trust her. Maybe if she just managed to give us a little more proof that she's innocent. Like, if she punched Jeremiah in front of us I'd believe her but all she's giving is stories. An arrow flies right over my head and gets stuck in the sand.
I look at it, eyes wide open. "The fuck." I say. Rose finally gave a reaction to something too. I turn around and I see four undead skeletons armed with a shield, a sword and bow and arrow. See, I hate skeletons, "Rose?" so I decide to scream. "ROSE?!?!" She looks up, shaken by my yelling. She starts running. "For fuck's sake Rose!" I run after her, but the sand is slowing me down. Stupid high heels, who would send someone into a trial without proper shoe wear? I make it to the grass and I can run a little faster, luckily the skeletons aren't able to outrun me on those little bones. I don't see Rose anywhere, I'm assuming she's still running. I decide to stay close to the shore but run around on the grass. All of a sudden, I can make out the shape of a boat in the distance. I think for a moment. I could beat Rose, stay true to my on-board friends, win their trust and escape the night, or I can take this boat and sail away from this madness on the ship. I hop on the ship anyway. Then I hear bones rattling behind me, I turn around and a skeleton wielding a sword is right in my face.
"Don't get your hopes up yet!" It says to me. "You're not getting away that easily..." The skeleton says. There goes my plan, still why would there be a boat? I decide to ask. "Then what's up with the boat?" I ask. "Sail to the end point of this island, and you win!" The skeleton says. That sure sounds good to me. "Aye aye captain!" I say. I put two fingers to my head and use the 'understood' gesture. The skeleton hops off the boat and I go into the captain's cockpit. "To victory!" I laugh, knowing that I'm finally about to beat Rose. I look back at the skeleton, Rose runs towards him. Luckily I practised lipreading. "Where is Esmay?" She asks, I chuckle. Since the skeleton has no lips I can't tell what he's saying, but he points at a canoe and I'm pretty sure he tells Rose to board it and try to catch up to me. No way, I'm on a motor boat, I'm winning this! I speed up. I have to say, I'm proud of myself, I bet the others will be proud of me too.
After a while, I arrive at the outest point of the island. I did it! I'm safe! I'm so happy, I just need to wait for that skeleton to give me the figure and I'm out of here. I've just taken down the powerhouse! Now nobody's gonna mess with me! I can't help but smile a little. Two skeletons hop on the boat. "Oh hey guys, I didn't see you there, haha." I say jokingly. I hold out my hand, ready to receive the figure. "Thanks sir." I say, as the skeleton reaches his hand out to me, holding the figure.
