Eventually, you and Taehyung opted to head for the suggested hotel. Geeze, was Finland cold as the deepest reaches of hell? You weren't sure the last time you had seen so much snow was, correction-- if you had even ever seen that much snow.
It was like a blanket of white was draped over the land, drowning it in a soft white power that would be impossible to get rid of even with a week of sunlight. The world seemed so much quieter here, perhaps it was the plush substance that fell from the sky that helped mute all sounds. Your hotel was in the middle of nowhere though, that likely helped reduce the noise pollution.
The place offered a calm serenity, to be able to hear the sound of the wind so crystal clear with absolutely nothing to disturb it was almost mystical somehow. You were nestled atop fluffy grey sheets on a bed tucked into a glass igloo, perhaps the wind wasn't exactly the most magical thing right then.
You stared up at the night sky through that glass ceiling, waiting beside Taehyung. Two pairs of eyes in anticipated silence for the not quite understood Aurora Borealis. The night hours were ticking by, but you managed to clear the boredom with playful banter and interesting conversation between yourself and your companion. It wasn't until nearly three in the morning did the dark black sky finally begin to morph.
The sight that began to unfold before your eyes were anything but ordinary. Colors of green, purple and soft whites began to streak across the sky as if you were actively watching someone paint on a black canvas. You heard the inspirational rumor once that every time an artist died, that god let them paint the skies, though I think they were referring more to the setting sun over this recurring phenomenon. Still, this beauty was nothing that you yourself could ever dream of replicating.
Silence fell over you as you felt the warmth of Taehyung's strong arms wrap around your shoulders and pull you in a bit closer. Scooting against his frame, you let your head rest against his chest, just over his heart. You could see a gift before your eyes that left you speechless, hear the rhythmic sound of Taehyung's heart fill your ears, and the warmth of his body whisking away the sense of cold that lingered. How many times had it felt like you had found heaven with him? It was becoming too many to count. This though, this was nearing the top of the list.
No words were spoken as the minutes ticked by. The dazzling lights more beautiful then any city skyline you would ever see kept you mesmerized. Before you realized, Taehyung's breathing had become slow and deep. Breaking away from the sight of the sky you pushed yourself up slightly, careful not to stir him as you glanced at his face. He was sound asleep, his arm still wrapped around you with his face tilted up to the clear roof.
The way the green and purple hues reflected of his skin was almost more trancing then the lights themselves, you found yourself wanting to stare at his peaceful face much more than the roaring sky. Now this, this was art. A form of art that only you could truly see, only you had the capability of deeply appreciating like this. His carefree face, relaxed by his slumber was picturesque right now to the adorable freckle just above his nostrils. If you were to die - again - staring that that face, you'd have no regrets...
You nuzzled back into your place in his arms, his warmth better than trying to fight for the blanket under him. Your eyes began to feel heavy and you didn't try and fight the weight. They managed to flutter shut for just a second before--
"Y/N..." Your lids bounced up as the sound of your whispered name caught you off guard. Pressing on Taehyung's chest you began to sit up a bit.
"I thought you were--" turning to look at your lover you were met only with his soundly sleeping face. Was he talking in his sleep? How cute.
Reaching a hand up you planted it against his warm skin as your finger dragged across his jaw. There was that peaceful beauty again.
"Outside." This time your eyes snapped open wide. You had been staring at those perfectly aligned lips of his and they hadn't moved, not even a twitch. You quickly whipped your head around the small, mostly glass bedroom to find nothing.
"Come outside..." The voice uttered once more. Your heart began to beat frantically, you couldn't pinpoint where the voice was coming from or even who it was speaking.
"Taehyung!" You quickly called out in a raised whisper as your attention turned back to your sleeping partner. You shook him softly trying to wake him in your fright. But he didn't budge, not even a single stir.
What was going on? No matter how hard you rattled him he wouldn't move, he was comatose.
"Outside..." the voice hissed again. It was deep in tone but soft in its pitch. The voice appeared to be more clear now but still, its source was unknown. Was it coming from the right? Maybe the left? Maybe... inside your head?
It felt like every nerve in your body was being pulled taut rendering you paralyzed. With no answer to your questions began to question aloud. "Am I hallucinating again...?"
"Come outside." The deep rustic voice continued to order quietly, the voice not quite as deep as Taehyung's own but the deadpan way in which they spoke was more terrifying than the pitch. "The door..." finally the voice uttered something else.
Your head whipped around to look at the bedroom door, seeing nothing unusual but the fact that you hear a strange voice that appeared to come from nowhere and everywhere, that was unusual enough.
"Who are you...?" Your voice came out softly, stumbling as you finally released Taehyung and rolled your heels off the side of the bed, your eyes scanning every inch of the room trying to find anything to explain this madness.
"Outside." Was all the voice repeated.
You could feel your heart beating relentlessly against your chest as you stared at the door now. It's white wood seeming harmless but at the same time frightening. The sliver knob shined with a sense of panic. What was out there? Whatever this was, it wanted you outside but... why?
Despite your better judgment, you pushed yourself to your feet. You practically had to drag yourself closer, each step felt like a mile.
As you reached within feet of the door your eyes averted to the side as you heard rustling from the bed. Taehyung had finally moved, rolling onto his side completely harmlessly. He grabbed a pillow and hugged it to his chest to replace the warmth your absence caused him to lose, he quickly fell back into a sound slumber.
The sight of him finally moving eased you a little. Your eyes shot back to the doorknob as your fingers twitched beside you.
"Outside..." The voice drew softer again, a breezy whisper as you contemplated what you'd find on the other side of that wooden frame. Though, despite the emotionless tone, the voice didn't seem threatening. Perhaps this was just a dream, granted you hadn't had one since you died but... first time for everything?
Raising your heavy hand you slid it against the cold metal and twisted the knob, hearing the latch pop as you pushed it open. Taking a break you stepped forward to cure your curiosity of what was just beyond the mystery, or perhaps your fear of your previous 'hallucinations' is what drove you.
'Just get it over with.' Was all you could rationalize to yourself. Maybe there was a piece of your death you had forgotten. Though terrified, you were determined. No longer would you let the twisted parts of your mind send you into a downhill spiral of madness. Rip it off like a bandaid and be done with it.
