Pulling yourself back from Taehyung, you gave him a moment to let everything sink in. To think if he needed it. Most of all what you needed was his trust, his trust that what you said was true. That what you two felt could withstand the strings of time just like in your shared fantasy. You needed him to believe that just as much as you did.
Taehyung's hands began to trail down your face and for a minute you were terrified, terrified he wouldn't take your offer and this would be it for the two of you. Where were you to go now if he rejected this offer? Would he forgive you? Could he? Could you even continue to be what you once were if he didn't go...?
Quickly his recaptured your cheeks and quickly pulled you into him. Your lips crashed together as the following rained served to hide the fact that tears were coming from more than just your eyes. You held onto his strong arms, your nails digging into the fabric of his leather jacket tightly. You didn't want to go, not really. You wished you could be selfish and continue to run, to be with him no matter what that meant but, you couldn't. You couldn't do that forever, not to him.
His head tilted into the crushingly passionate kiss that left you breathless. His warm lips pressed against your own was the sweetest taste you'd never want to forget. When would you feel those lips again? Would you ever feel his warmth again? Perhaps it wasn't eternity that risked driving you mad but the absence of him that was much more frightening...
The kiss lasted a mear second in comparison to everything. You wished you could hold him for weeks, months, years more but, time wasn't on your side. It had never been on your side and this was no exception. If time was a living being, you'd have to be sure to find them and give them a piece of your mind before it was all said and done.
Your fingers involuntarily rug into the fabric of his jacket, scraping the leather as your body disobeyed your mind. You didn't want to let him go, no matter how right it seemed in the greater scheme of things. You were scared, terrified.
Forcing your will to your fingers you released your grip and let your hands rest gently at his arms. You forced a smile, wide and tear stained. You wanted this him, you needed him to have this for your own sanity. You couldn't live forever thinking you were holding him back.
Pulling your hands from him you reached into your jacket pocketed and pulled free an envelope. You held it in your hands, staring at Taehyung's name written in cursive along the top. You brought it to your lips, kissing his written name before offering it out to him.
"Read this before you go, okay?" Your last request as you offered up the handwritten letter. Hands shaking in the cold rain. He pinched the corner between his thumb and index finger.
"You're not staying...?" He asked, the question nearly bringing you to your knees. You shook your head.
"I can't. I'm sorry. Please, don't be mad." Raising your left hand you used the heal of your palm to whip your tear-stained face, clearing the salt water and rain from your eyes. "But, you're not going alone, okay?"
"What do you--...?" Taehyung's brows frowned, his eyes still red and puffy. As if on cue, the last party finally arrived.
Looking back over your shoulder, Taehyung's eyes fell on the same thing yours did. There he was, clad in a simple white long sleeve shirt and a pair of black ripped jeans. You turn your head back to Taehyung with a weak smile.
Breaking away you turned to head for Jimin, forcing that bittersweet smile to stay on your lips as you approached him.
"You should be the one leaving with him..." Jimin soft, sweet voice sounded defeated. There was sorrow all around.
"You're his best friend, you were here long before me. It's my term to take up the mantel." Reaching out you placed your hands on his shoulder before wrapping them around Jimin's neck and hugging him tightly. "I'll see you guys again one day." You whispered to him as his well-built arms returned the gesture.
"Take care of him, Jimin. Do you understand me?" Pulling back, tears ran more fluidly down your face then the falling rain. "Never leave him."
"I promise." He nodded, making a vow despite the fact that you hadn't asked him to. "Join us soon though, okay?"
"As soon as I can." You nodded vigorously. "I promise." Your smile was so forcefully large your cheeks began to hurt. Oh, how pitiful you likely looked.
Patting him on the shoulder you gestured him to his friend. Jimin walked around you, making his way to Taehyung as you watched on. Taehyung's eyes were clouded by a hand as there was no hope of hiding his tears now.
"I love you, baby!" You yelled across the distance you had created. Jimin reached his friend, swiftly raising an arm to rub at Taehyung's shoulder in comfort. "I'll always be with you!" You added. "Both of you."
"I love you, Y/N!!" Taehyung yelled back over the pouring rain. It was taking every piece of him not to run back to you and take you in his arms.
You felt every syllable of those words in every inch of your being, absolutely no doubt in your mind that they were true. You could only help he felt the same. Despite your fear and sorrow, you felt happy. Happiness because you were giving him a gift no other could give, a gift that he'd come to cherish, one he had always wanted.
Raising your hand to your lips, you planted them again your kiss before blowing it in his direction. Cheesy and simple but you knew if you walked any closer you may never let him leave. He smiled through the tears at the gesture.
Returning that pained grin you let your eyes close. Those last words, that smile, that was the last image you wanted of him. Those alone could sustain you through your coming years as a reaper.
And just like that... you were gone. Faded from sight like a mist. A trick only reapers had. A trick, only you had now out of the trio now.
You would take up their mantel now.
