You didn't venture far from that little phone booth on the corner of Madison Street, only going a few blocks before being led into the lobby of an upper class hotel. Taehyung sat you on one of the couches in the pristine lobby and told you to wait there. Instantly, you felt displaced. You looked like more of a wreck than normal and you knew people were staring, but you couldn't bring yourself to lift your eyes to check. You were trusting his judgement, you were putting a lot of faith in a more or less stranger but, right now you trusted him more than yourself.
It took a few minutes before Taehyung returned to your side, two key cards within his long fingers as he knelt in front of you to show them off. The look in his eyes was soft, though his hues reflected more of a coal color. He curled his lips into a compassionate, closed lipped, smile.
"I booked us a room, just for a little while. So that you can get cleaned up and into a fresh pair of clothes. You really shouldn't be walking around in this weather soaking wet." He explained, being careful with his words so that you didn't assume he had any ulterior motives.
You nodded in response, not finding any words that you wanted to try and force up your throat out of fear they'd only come out choked. Standing back up, Taehyung placed his hand at the middle of your back, just between the blades of your shoulder, and helped guide you like a lost pup.
"I'm going to see you up to the room, then while you shower, I'm going to run out to get you a new pair of clothes." He explained as the two of you headed for the elevator. Your bangs shadowed your eyes, though you didn't have to look through your hair to see some heads turning in your direction as the two of you moved to the mechanical metal doors and waited for the them to slide open. You were leaving a trail of water behind with each step.
"I don't have money on me..." You whispered, glancing up at Taehyung from the corner of your eye.
"So? I may not be rich but I have enough to cover this and a change of clothes, don't worry." He huffed out a breathless chuckle. "If you're that worried about it, you can pay me back for the clothes later." He added, knowing that was likely exactly why you had even brought up the fact that you were lacking in cash and once again, you didn't argue.
The doors opened and the two of you climbed into the metal box. Taehyung hit the button for the 13th floor and you felt the box you stood in shutter as it began to move up. The ride was silent, you didn't feel like talking and he didn't push you to. You didn't know what to say. 'Thanks for coming to get me in some strange city because I had no idea where I was or how I got here.' That statement only made you sound like a drunk, to which you didn't even really do that often due to your lack of social status with people.
All you wanted now was answers, anything to explain your lapse in time. What day was it even? How many times have you done this now and not been aware? You skipped three days previously without a clue until you had seen that newspaper, now this was happening subconsciously and the excuse of stress wasn't going to cut it this time.
The elevator dinged as the doors slid open and you followed Taehyung into the hall. Listening to the sounds of his foot steps over watching his movements to determine where he was going, you stopped just a few feet behind him when he had finally reached the door. You heard the mechanical lock come undone and the door swing open as Taehyung pushed it. You followed him into the room, the door being held open. You raised your head finally, taking in a short survey of the room.
This definitely wasn't a Motel 8. It was spacious, looking almost like a studio apartment that lacked a functioning kitchen. The room was cloaked elegantly in whites and blacks, matching closely to the color scheme of Taehyung's own outfit while you stuck out like a sore, colorful thumb.
"The bathroom should be right here. There are tons of towels and even a robe, I think." He explained, cracking opening a second door just beside the first and popping his head inside to make sure they had the things he listed.
Turning to him, you nodded, once again swallowing your empty throat in the place of a verbal reply. The distance between the two of you wasn't large, but it was closed in an instant when Taehyung took a heavy step forward.
Gingerly his hands raised, cupping your cheeks. Large palms and slender fingers engulfed your ice cold face as he pulled your head up to look at him. "It's going to be okay, Y/N." He whispered, as if it were a secret the world didn't need to know.
You wanted to believe him, you wanted that same hope but along with many other things, you lacked the ability. His words only served to add to your fear, though he was trying to be comforting. Your doubt ran deep. Though to be honest in your disbelief would likely just hurt him, and you didn't want that.
You didn't say a thing instead, you just stared up at him making yourself go numb to your emotions because it seemed better than screaming out your fear. You had no answers.
"I'll be right back, alright?" He finally spoke as he released your face from his hold and moved his hand to offer you up one of the room keys just in case.
Silently and sluggishly you took the room key and let your hand fall listlessly back at your side.
The look in Taehyung's eye could only be construed as pity as his brow frowned, causing his eyes to fall half lid. He hesitated leaving you there alone - that was easy to tell. But after a moment he shuffled to the door and pulled it back open, giving you one more glance over his shoulder as you stood in the dead center of the room.
Dripping with water, an over sized white trench coat hung loosely on your shoulders. Your shoes were flooded and there wasn't a single piece of you dry at this point; drowned, fragile, shattered remnants of a human.
The door shut finally and you were left alone, bone crushing silence quickly enveloped you but you weren't granted peace in the lack of noise, no. It only served to amplify the thoughts within your mind. It took a few minutes for you to beg your subconscious for a brief moment of solitude, and once it was granted you peeled off Taehyung's coat and laid it on one of the two beds in the room. Your eyes drifted over its collar and down the center hem, fingers trailing your eyes. So soft...
