The pain began to seep from your pores like sweat, draining from your body so quickly your heart rate was the last thing to keep up. It was as if a waterfall of relief rained over you, forcing the hallucinations out with each gushing drop. Though it didn't bring the strength back to you, still kneeling on the ground, hands at your sides, you hadn't an ounce left in you that would allow you to move. The only thing you were capable of was a flutter of your eyes as they tried desperately to survey your surroundings. Were you still in hell?
You could barely make anything out, everything seemed clouded in darkness, but the rushing relief from the pain continued to flood. Your lips were unable to move to call out to anyone. Your body was solidified in its kneel like stone. It was only when you finally tried to take in a shattered breath that you realized your lips were covered.
Your lungs began to cry, begging desperately for air as your nostrils weren't enough to sustain the large amount of oxygen you needed to take in in such a short time to satisfy your body. Only when the shield pressed up against your lips was uncovered were you able to gasp for air and your lids grew lighter with the inhalation.
You could see, you could finally see them. Deep, familiar, brown gem eyes staring at you just inches from your face. Eyes swirling in thought revealed a soul so naive and at the same time so sagacious. They were shiny rust in the twilight, nutmeg sprinkled on top of everything. The edges skirted in infinite darkness like the thoughts of his pupils, which were radiating with gold around them. As deep as his soul, as luminous as amber, they're captivating and inviting like coffee for a winter Sunday wrapped in the embrace of a blanket. As deep as the enigma of pain you were just suffering in. They were all you could see. He came for you...
"T-Tae..." You choked out, as if your words were going to be chased with vomit, you quickly closed your mouth.
"Shhh ... It's okay." His rich, silky tone cascaded over you, soothing you as his thumbs glided across your cheeks, breathing a new sensation of comfort into your pain riddled bones.
There was something about his eyes, however, that completely threw you off. For the first time, you could see the glisten of water rolling down his cheek, directly from his right eye. You knew it wasn't the rain. His throat was tight and there was pain in his eyes as he held your face. Ruffled, wind-ravaged chestnut locks scattered against the wind, but despite its force he never once broke the gaze, he didn't even blink.
"I told you... I'd be here when you needed me." Leaning forward, he rested his head against your own. Nuzzling against your forehead, you felt the brush of his nose against yours. His voice was a barely audible whisper over the downpour, but you could hear the anguish radiate from every word he spoke.
Your face turned up, nose crinkling and eyes threatening to shut as you once again tried to cap the emotions coursing through your veins, but you were too weak. Your eyes watered and the dams burst once more, tears streaming down your heated face within his hands and landing on the skin of his thumbs.
He pulled you from the darkness, he dragged you back from the pits of hell that you were sinking so quickly into. You begged for someone to save you, and here he was. But you were still mad at him, weren't you? You still wanted to shove him away and tell him you weren't ready. You wanted to hate him for his lies and reject his kindness, but you couldn't.
You had never had someone come so quickly to your aid at a time you so desperately required it. No one who would go against your own wishes just to save you from your sanity. How could you reject him now? This was the man who was destined to lead your soul into an unfamiliar and terrifying void you wished to avoid, but now you wanted nothing more than to remain in the embrace of his hands, relishing in the warmth of someone's touch that you hadn't felt in so very long.
Finally, your body gave way and you crumbled, hunching forward you collapsed against his chest and began to wail. Screaming as you cried and clutched onto the dark denim jacket he wore, taking fist fulls of the coarse fabric and digging your nails into them, you released the remainder of your pain. You were petrified.
Taehyung wrapped his strong arms around your body, squeezing against your back as he took his place on the roof of the skyscraper and hugged you tightly, making sure you felt safe in his capture. He stroked at your hair, which was now a mixture of blues and blacks that were slowly starting to fade back into the dark chocolate color you were given at birth. Your charade of nice clothing melted away, leaving you in the pajamas you had left your home town in, soaked to the bone from the never-ending rain.
Your exterior was shattering, matching that of your interior. No amount of beautiful clothing or false appearances could cloak you from the pain that was riddled into your bones.
Taehyung parted his legs, letting his body lean back as he formed a cradle to house the mutilated pieces of your soul. You curled into his body, absorbing the heat he put off like a kitten by the fire. Once again, you could hear it. The beating of his heart that thumped against his chest. It was so loud, so profound, but at that moment so soothing. You could feel him shaking, the tight wrapping of his arms brought security, but you couldn't help but question the rattling. Was he afraid?
