Early February 2013

I stepped into Fury's office and was met by Maria Hill, Natasha Romanoff, and Fury himself. Nat handed me a case file, and I flipped through it. It was a run of the mill hostage case get in, distract the abductors, get the hostages, get out.

'This should be easy' I thought to myself as Fury started talking. He repeated just about everything I thought.

"... Get out. Got it," he scanned through the three of us as we nodded. "This is a highly secure Hydra base so even though it should be easy, stay alert I don't need to lose any good agents." He said sternly.

"We'll take off at 6 o'clock," Hill took over, crossing her arms. It was 10 in the morning right now so I had time to prepare. Both Nat and Hill left leaving you and Fury.

"Be careful Agent," Fury warned as I turned to leave. For some reason that rubbed me the wrong way.

"Wheels up in 5! Let's go! Move it!" Maria yelled at the agents loading our quin jet.

I was as ready as I was going to get so I got on the jet and awaited take off. I was fairly confident that this mission would go exactly as planned but there was still something that kept me on my toes.

"Hey Nat," I greeted as Natasha got on the plane.

"Hey, you ready to kick some Hydra a**?" She asked.

"Totally," I chuckled relaxing a bit as Maria walked onto the jet.

"Are we all set?" Nat asked Maria.

"Yes," she nodded, and we were off.

The jet landed in a clearing just outside the Hydra base. It was a covert op and each of us had an assignment, so we snuck in and then went on our own ways.

I crept slowly to the room that the hostages were thought to be in. It was in the middle of the facility and it took a while to get to.

When I got to the room the door was bolted, so I had to pick the lock. I hummed quietly as I jiggled the at door. "Abra Kadabra," I whispered when the door clicked open. I slipped inside and shut the door so I could explain and lead the hostages the safest way out of the base.

"Okay here's how we're gonna do this ..?" I gasped turning around to see there were no hostages, "This just got a lot harder."

"Hey, guys the hostages aren't here," I announced the change over the comms.

"What!?" Maria sounded annoyed, "So much for being easy!"

"Yeah, no their not here. Uh, I'm just gonna keep looking around," I sighed.

"Like Fury said be careful," Nat's tone sent a chill down my spine.

"Will do." I left the room cautiously made my way down the hall peering into rooms as I went by. No hostages. No blood. Nothing.

Then I heard someone talking so I made way toward the voice. I stuck my head out and saw two guards coming my way, so I pressed myself against the wall. They passed without any idea of my being. Then I reached a door ajar.

Cautiously I slowly pushed it open to meet an open room with more doors. 'Really?' I thought as stepping into the room. I looked into the first two doors and found nothing. 'Third time's a charm, right?'

Just before I pushed the door open something suddenly felt very wrong. I jumped at the horrific sight. The two agents we had come to rescue laid on the floor both beaten to a pulp and shot point-blank in the head.

"Oh my- " I was cut off by Natasha yelling through the comms.

"Guys it's an ambush they knew we were coming!" I could hear shots ring off through the earpiece.

"The hostages are dead," I whispered through the comms.

"It's a trap?" Maria sighed out of breath.

"Fall back," Natasha urged.

I turned to head out of there but the door was sealed. Then a sharp pain shot through the back of my head as something struck me from behind.

If it was an ambush I knew they likely couldn't come to my rescue. 'Now I'm the hostage.' I hoped against hope that this was a nightmare, not one coming true.

In my unconscious state, I realized hadn't told Steve. He didn't even know I was gone while I was probably being dragged to my doom.
