Nat got stitched up and stayed with Fury, while Maria, Sam, Steve, and I headed to the triskelion. As we snuck in I realized how much I had missed being in the field, it just came to me naturally. Then, we took control of the communications room and were ready to execute the plan. Steve gave a short speech about Hydra and Shield and freedom, who would expect less from the Capitan? Finally, Sam, Steve, and I prepared to go our separate ways.
"Be careful okay?" Steve gently grabbed my arm, concerned.
"You too," I gave a nod. I knew we would be facing a brainwashed version of his childhood best friend which worried me. Steve had trusted me with a couple of stories about Bucky, and I know how much he means to Steve. I just didn't want him to let his emotions get the best of him, or get him killed. I squeezed his hand goodbye and hoped for the best.
After managing to stay undetected on the way up, I made the mistake of thinking this would be easy. However, when I reached the roof I was met by chaos and carnage. Lone Shield agents fought their best against the packs of Hydra spies. Some even tried to get jets in the air to support Captain America, but they were shot down by, who I wondered, glancing over my shoulder to see as I ran.
"Bucky," I lept for cover hoping I wasn't his target. Panic crept into my veins while I wondered if I would be able to hold my own against the metal-armed assassin. *PING* A knife landed on the wall next to my head, "shit!" I barely had time to turn around before he was upon me.
The winter soldier came swinging a knife through the air, moving so fast that it made a swishing noise. Dodging him was difficult, but I managed a few times before the knife grazed my arm. Frantically I looked around trying to find something I could use to my advantage. Got it. I bounded up a piece of fallen debris, giving me time to grab some wire out of my belt. Then jumped off landing with my legs straddling Bucky's shoulders.
Quickly, I pulled the wire tight around his neck. Bucky desperately tried to wriggle his fingers up under the wire to relieve the pressure. As he did so I pulled tighter, but he managed to slip his fingers under and forcefully jerked the line forward.
"Damnit!" My weaker hand gave out, allowing the wire to slip out of my grasp. With that idea thrown out the window, I tried to use what advantage I had left. I began to repeatedly drive my fist into his head until he snatched my hand and flung me off his shoulders.
Then, I scrambled to my feet, barely able to keep up with the constant barrage of punches. One caught me square in the hip joint, causing me to stumble to the side. While my balance was off Barnes kicked my legs out from under me. I hit the ground so hard I heard my head snap against the ground. My vision blurred as I saw his metal fist speeding in the direction of my face. I rolled over trying to dodge a fatal blow. *Crunch* The force of his arm turned the concrete beneath it to powder. Before he could come at me again, I swiftly kneed him in the jaw disorienting him enough for me to run away.
I ran and yelled through the coms, "Hey Sam! I need a lift!"
"Coming in hot," he swooped down and I held up my arm then grasped his hand. It felt like my shoulder was going to pop out of its socket as we swiftly ascended. "Too close for comfort?"
"Yeah," I sighed, "thanks." I waved when he dropped me off at the helicarrier. I ran, though it seemed like there were little to no opponents to face. A wince of pain spread across my face as pain blossomed through my leg, and I began to limp.
"Alpha lock," Sam confirmed through the coms. I could see a series of explosions through the glass undercarriage of the helicarrier. I could make out Sam and Steve for a bit, before one of his wings caught on something bringing him down. I hurried as Maria announced the time left.
