May 2014 - Capitan America Winter soldier

"And here would be a great place for the ceremony," the guide gestured to a white archway. I was having a pretty normal day finishing up some stuff for the wedding. Today's task was to pick the top choices for a wedding venue. Steve and I both liked this one when we looked at pictures online, so I thought I'd take a tour and see a little more about it. But soon any plans I had for the day went out the window.

"Oh it's beautiful-" I was cut off by my phone ringing. It was Steve. He must have been back from his mission.

"Hey honey," I answered while silently apologizing to the woman showing me around.

"I need you to meet me, ASAP," he sped through the sentence, "Fury's been shot." I was taken aback by his urgency and that last part.

"Woah Woah Woah, Steve slow down," I didn't understand what was going on. "You said Fury, the Nick Fury, was shot?" I asked in pure disbelief. Nick was no stranger to getting shot but the way Steve said it made it sound bad.

"Yes, he was shot," Steve sighed into the phone, "(y/n) it's... I don't know if he's going to make it." I felt the adrenaline start to seep into my veins.

"Where do you need me to meet you?" I sped through my words just like Steve had moments before.

"I'll text it to you," and with that, the call ended, no goodbye, there wasn't enough time for that.

"Ma'am," I waved down the tour guide, "I'm sorry but there's been an emergency and I have to go." I turned and started to leave. "But this is a very beautiful venue, thank you," I waved a hand while pushing through the exit.

I rushed out the door to my car. Nick was a dear friend and in my gut, I knew this was bad.

Busted through the doors of the hospital and the gravity of the situation finally settled over me. Every inch of the hospital was covered in shield agents. After finding a nurses station I asked for directions to get where I needed to go. When I finally got there I was met by a defeated-looking Steve.

"What happened?" I panted and he just shook his head and then pulled me into a tight hug. Fury was gone. I silently let a couple of tears escape my eyes but I tried to keep composure.

"We were attacked," he sighed as I pushed away, "in my apartment."

"What? Why?" I was confused. "Why would Fury be in your apartment?"

Something wasn't right. He looked around as if checking if the coast was clear, then nearly dragged me into a nearby room for privacy with a look that told me everything.

"What is it?" I questioned cocking my head in shock.

"I'm not sure, but Fury told me not to trust anyone," he spoke in a hushed tone, "(Y/n) you need to get somewhere safe fast." The urgency in his eyes scared me.

"But if whoever he was talking about knows or suspects you know something's up won't you be their first target," I knew he had a job to do but I didn't want him to walk into a trap.

"I'm prepared for that," he whispered, "I just don't want you to get caught up in it too." Through the window, I could see Agent Rumlow heading our way.

"Don't trust anyone right?" He nodded slowly with a questioning look. Just before the door swung open I began to fake cry. "Oh Steve, I just can't believe he's really gone," I threw my arms around a very shocked Steve in distress, just as Rumlow walked in.

"Captain, Peirce wants you back at HQ," he ordered. I sobbed louder into Steve's chest while he turned to Rumlow.

"Okay, be there in a second," he waved Rumlow off, catching on to my act.
