"So what you're telling me is that you have a hot date tonight? You managed to score without me?" Benny sounded more excited that hurt that I was ditching him tonight. I had pictured him a little less enthusiastic and a little more bitter. Benjamin Collins surely was unpredictable.
"It's not that big of a deal, Ben." I attempted to make it more casual than it was. Benny on the other hand completely disregarded my attempt and slapped a hand on my shoulder.
"Not a big deal! Pete, you haven't been on an official date ever. You hump and dump." In my defense, I had gone on dates before, in high school. I've only known Benny since the start of our Freshman year, he doesn't know me as much as he thinks. Benny had decided to prepare me for the date, so he taught me the art of, "Boyfriend material" manners. It mostly consisted of keeping my mouth shut and being a complete gentleman.
There was no way I could do that.
By seven-thirty he had forced me into a ridiculous outfit and sent me on my way. "You have to be early if you want the cake after." There was the Benny I knew.
The jeans he lent me were tight and itchy, nothing compared to the usual joggers I wore. I had no complaints with the button-up, I just felt like a total phony wearing it. Even though Benny told me to be punctual I purposely stayed in my car an additional ten minutes before heading over to Selena's dorm room. She had texted me her room number hours ago and I was relieved she wasn't in a sorority house.
The first thing I saw when I knocked was a tiny girl with big glasses, and a scowl. She gave me a once over then shouted at Selena over her shoulder. "Your unpunctual date is here!" The girl looked like a high schooler and I almost found myself asking for her age.
"I got it, Barb, thanks." Selena approached the door with a smile and waved me in. The room wasn't as small as I had pictured it, but it was extremely messy. Barb laid on a bean bag in the corner with a thick harry potter book in hand. It seemed like the mess in the room belonged to her since it was mostly on her side.
"Sorry about the mess, Barb promised to clean up as soon as she's done with her book," Selena explained sitting on her vanity while applying lipstick. She was wearing a royal blue, mini dress with red heels and red lipstick. She looked really good, the dress hugged her thin silhouette almost perfectly. As she noticed me checking her out she grinned and threw me a wink.
